Communication Network Riser Slot ?

I've have an old MSI K7T Pro (MS-6330) since it was new, and i have never know what the Communication Network Riser Slot it all about, and im really just curioius (sp) - what does it do, what cards does it take, what so they do etc

They take dodgy llittle modems iirc

and the, beacause its a pointless idea (beacasue why not use PCI) there quickly became history?

- hence why you dont see them much?
