    How Expensive Is It To Run Your Cooling

    I was drinking + thinking the other day about how expensive it is to run various cooling setups.

    For example a Eheim 1250 pump uses about 28Watts but what does this equate to in actual elecricity cost terms? By using a calculator to add up my total computer power usage i am using about a peak of 350 watts. So ... how would we calculate the wattage use (i.e. is this quoted amount per second or minute?)? and how much do we rougthly pay in the UK for 1watt of electricity?

    The main reason i ask i that i was thinking of getting a peltier (220W TEC @ Vmax/Imax = 360W) but it seems to be quite a costly addition in the long run.

    First you need to calculate the total watts! This means all the watts... like monitor excetra.... BTW, The PSU does not draw what it puts out.... and its only 69% efective.... Keep in mind A standerd USA receptical can only handel 500 Wats! then the braker trips! and thats total! if you have other stuff on that braker then you have less wattage availabe! If I were to add up all the watts rated on my system Pluse the air conditioner on the same braker well....

    Edit: also my recp.is on a 12 gage wire circuit! pluse It could be on a 30 amp breaker.... If you really wish to add it all up... get an amprob and start at

    V = A x R

    V= volts
    A= amps
    R= ressistance

    Thats a start any way! If you fell the need to put your self threw this then I can help with the calculations after that point!

    SORRY! This should help better! Just find a meter and mesure the total amps your system draws! then imput the volts and amps in the fields!

    iirc, power is typically multiplied by the time it's used for in the UK, and then it's charged for....for instance:

    using a 500W computer system for two hours equates very simply to:

    500 x 2 = 1000Wh (watt-hours) or 1kWh (kilowatt hours)

    Electricity companies will probably quote you a price per kilowatt hour....I think.

    Ehiem pumps drain virtually nothing. I have got one of the high flow ones and the power draining is virtually nothing on it.
