Obviously your avisynth script will vary depending on the source. Deinterlacing and decimation are incredibly common. Something like:
    QTGMC( Preset="Slow" )
would be interesting on sources that need it, of course none of the ones in the OP do. Spline36resize could have been used regardless, and how speed is affected when you scale up or down would also have some merit.

As for x264 itself, a fairly standard line would be:
--level 4.1 --preset slow --tune film --crf 18.0

Note that for the benchmarks you are using the same presets for all 3 clips, even the last one thats animation.... it should have completely different settings than live action.

Cheers Dances for benching the E350. I was hoping it would be a smidge quicker than that in comparison to the other 32bit results

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Did a little test of quality 0.9.5 v 0.9.6 using the tron file and there seems to be no difference, the file sizes were almost the same at 85.6mb (89,856,291 bytes) for 0.9.6 and 85.5mb (89,690,605 bytes) for 0.9.5 and the slight difference could be down to me naming them differently, anyway, a shed load of results are incoming from me shortly, stay tuned.

Well it isn't bad for 17W really Optimised for web surfing not this sort of heavy crunching, so a nice platform but I don't tend to do real work on it.

I'll finish a proper bench at the weekend now I started.
High quality bunny takes a couple of hours and I couldn't run it overnight last night

ULV Piledriver might be more what you are hoping for perhaps?

Perhaps they've added AVX/XOP optimisations to the encoder? AMD sent such a version to reviewers to benchmark Bulldozer with, and it would help SNB too.

Of course, that can't be the only thing they've done as even CPUs without these instruction sets see a huge improvement.

    High profile 1055T

    bbb - 13.410801 fps

    tron - 16.145193 fps

Not what I expected, and doesn't seem to fit in with the results posted in that article linked by CAT?

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

    System used:
    Core i5 2300 (2.8Ghz, not overclocked)
    16 GB RAM
    Z68 Mobo
Win 7 64 Bit, using the new Handbrake 0.9.6 64 bit.

High Profile: ("using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 FastShuffle SSE4.2 AVX")
BBB 14.688353 fps (File size = 400,844 KB)
Splice 10.503302 fps (File size = 162,929 KB)
Tron 15.527462 fps (File size = 83,695 KB)

Normal: ("using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 FastShuffle SSE4.2 AVX")
BBB 61.377522 fps (File size = 372,465 KB)
Splice 43.461445 fps (File size = 146,213 KB)
Tron 58.885262 fps (File size = 87,661 KB)

I thought i'd include the quoted log for CPU capabilities for extra interest etc
Also, the first two files are smaller using 'normal' setting, but Tron is bigger compared to 'High Profile'.

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

    Very interesting!!

I just looked at the results watercooled and MSIC got.

On Normal profile the 2.8GHZ Core i5 2300 is significantly faster than a 2.8GHZ henom II X6 1055T.

However, with the more CPU intensive,High Profile the Core i5 2300 and Phenom II X6 more or less trade blows.

It might explain why some reviews show conflicting results and in some ways confirms what HT4U also saw with the previous version of HandBrake.

Considering the fact that the output files seem very much the same, I would say that the improvements are due to this.

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Time to chuck my results into the mix - seems to be a very nice speed increase on the 'normal' setting vs 0.9.5

    i7 2700k @ 5ghz is a monster:

    Code:
    Normal
    Tron 98.610802 fps	(37 seconds)
    Splice 75.262444 fps (44 seconds)
    BBB 94.259605 fps (2 minutes 33 seconds)

    High Profile
    Tron 32.679737 fps	(1 minute 51 seconds)
    Splice 22.936869 fps (2 minutes 25 seconds)
    BBB 25.865435 fps	(9 minutes 16 seconds)
My encode log shows "using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 FastShuffle SSE4.2 AVX"

So Im guessing now AVX etc is in use the 6 core/12 thread cpu's will be impossible to match!
