Difference between Asus Xonar d2 and d2x?
Hello,
As the title suggests, I was reading the spec sheets (located here and here) and the only thing I could seem to pin down as discrepancies are the DirectSound3D Game EXtensions 1.0 (DS3D GX 1.0)/DirectX on the D2X, which is present only on the D2X and only supported in Vista/W7 and obviously the connection interface.
They're identical in all other ways it seems, and the reason Im asking is that I dont seem to have any spare molex connectors to connect up my floppy power cable adapter which it requires (I can but it means daisy chaining 3 things). I would like to avoid the faff and any other possible issues I may encounter should I buy the d2x over the D2.
Cheers
Re: Difference between Asus Xonar d2 and d2x?
D2 is PCI, D2X is PCI-E X1
:)
Re: Difference between Asus Xonar d2 and d2x?
But is that the only difference?
Re: Difference between Asus Xonar d2 and d2x?
The name is different :P
As far as I can tell they are exactly the same, it is possible that the D2 has slightly better latency over the D2X since that uses a PCI-PCI-E bridge chip, but they are otherwise the same.

This - only motherboards don't have native PCI slots these days anyway, so they use a bridging chip to provide them off the PCI-E lanes as well.
Basically you have the choice between using the bridging chip on the motherboard, or the bridging chip on the sound card. I doubt it'd make any difference, though I have a slight inclination to preferring it to be on the sound card (because in my case I have other PCI cards for eg wi-fi).

I have the D2X and it makes zero difference
Re: Difference between Asus Xonar d2 and d2x?
My D2X runs extremely hot for a soundcard...
I believe it has something to do with the bridge chips they used on them.....I have one of the first made, whether or not newer ones are the same, I don't know.

I dont think mine does, i have one of the later ones. Il try and remember to check when im at home but i haven't noticed it
