please help - pc wont boot up

    Hi,

We bought a pc from Scan a couple of years ago and have had no problems until about 30 mins ago.

The pc will not boot up and I get an error message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

    Has the HDD crashed?

Please help as we run a business from this pc and need it up and running ASAP so any help much appreciated.

    Graham

unless the bios is no longer looking at the correct drive you are correct.

Re: please help - pc wont boot up

    thanks for the reply.

We have a C drive - SSD which has the O/S on (I think) and a D drive which stores the data so I assume the C drive has failed so what can I do to fix it?

How do I check if the bios is looking where it should be? No settings have been changed -so am confused as to what to do next

Re: please help - pc wont boot up

you download the motherboard manual and see what that says about the boot drive order.

the bios may reset for no reason. it does happen.

at least you wont have lost the data if the SSD is dead

Re: please help - pc wont boot up

If you can get into the BIOS, you may not need the manual, they're usually pretty straight forward. Can you see anywhere it may say boot order ? It's usually under basic settings.

Re: please help - pc wont boot up

The Samsung is not working then.
Change the boot order to DVD first, then save and exit.
    Boot from DVD.
    Backup all data.

    Then

The Samsung may or may not be under warranty but you need this thing running, yes ?
You could install Windows to the operational HDD, make it the 2nd boot order, then restore your data and off you go.

Ah - Just looked that up. Express gate is a built in flash drive. It may only be that that has failed.
Like the man ^^ said. Turn it off and try again.
