I've just bought a Kingston 16gb SE9 and when I plug it in windows 7 takes about 1 minute or more to actually acknowledge it is connected.
A couple of times it has listed it as not being formatted. Is it faulty or is it normal for a USB stick of large capacity to take this long ?
My sandisk ones are very quick but, they are only 2gb.
It sounds like something is afoot. Try it in another machine.

Is it running some kind of kingston security software? We had encrypted ones at work and they took ages. my 16gb one is fine and about teh same speed as smaller caps.
There is nothing on the drive. I reformatted it using XP. When plugged into a laptop or PC with XP it is recognised within a second or 2.
When I plug it onto my PC running Win 7 it takes about 1-2 minutes to recognise it and then about 50% of the time it thinks it is not formatted.
have you tried it in a different usb slot on your win 7 pc? if its the same can rule out a dodgy usb port.

I spoke with Kingston technical today about this and they knew about it, Apparently it is a conflict with Acronis TI. Even though it does not affect other USB sticks I have.
