H'mm well, err how shall I say it...?

Not really worth bothering m8 on a celeron P4. Even @ 3Ghz they are slower than a P4 running at 2Ghz for gaming.

But hey if you must.....You can only adjust the FSB (front side bus) and voltage. You are locked @ 24x multiplier so, 24 x 133 = 3.13Ghz which will likely be a reasonable possibility. You may need some more Vcore (1.65V max) and away you go.

I'm not putting much effort onto this because you'd be better off off loading the Celeron and getting a good P4 Northwood (2.0Ghz that does 2.66Ghz easy would be handy) and using that instead.

It's the 128KB cache that cripples the Celeron BTW.

    Cheers,

    MM

Yeah, it's a lot like when Intel gave the P4 PC133 ... it simply killed 70% of the perf. As said you can o/c but only using FSB and voltage, 3ghz should be doable (as a likely maximum) but you will be slower (in some things) than a £35ish 1.47ghz XP1700+ (and in TbredB form they o/c to XP2800+ or so).

On a good note the Celly's = or > 2.0ghz use the NW core (minus much L2) otherwise your Willy would be sweating even at 2.0ghz! Behold the mircale that is Intel's ghz without perf...

lol, that was quick, if you could answer these questions we'd be in a better position to help :-

what P4 2.4 did you get? there are three version afaik, a 400fsb, a 533fsb and an 800fsb one

and what speed is your ram? pc2100, pc2700, pc3200 etc, a full corsair model name could be helpful (edit:- seen it in the title now )

and what cpu cooler (heatsink and fan) do you have?

ok, go into your bios 'press the delete key on start up', now make sure the fsb/dram ratio is set as 1:1, now just rack up the fsb (as simple as that). take it in small increments, prehaps 5mhz at a time, if you notice an system stability then you will have to increase the voltage (again, small increments)! see how far it will go!

an fsb of 166 will give you a cpu speed of 3ghz (which is perfectly possible) and the memory will be running at it's rated specification. you will probably have to increase the vcore voltage somewhat to reach this though (prehaps to about 1.725v), though you may wait for your new cooler to arrive before you try this!!

ok, i've looked at some pics of the asus bios, and it doesn't have a fsb/dram ratio as such.

so, in the advanced page of the bios (which will look like this :- http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?im...lfMl8zX2wuZ2lm), you want to set :-

cpu external frequency :- start at 133 (the cpu's default) and work up slowly from there, 5mhz or so at a time

dram frequency :- 333 (this is your RAM speed, 333Mhz is within specification of your RAM, i would leave this for now)

agp/pci frequecy :- auto (leave this as auto)

cpu vcore voltage :- start at default and increase by small increments if you get system instability

    the rest leave as default

you may have to update you BIOS to go beyond 1.6v vcore, earlier BIOS's had this is their maximum, the later ones allow you to go up to 1.95v (don't go this high!!)

ok, i don't know what a safe voltage on a 2.4B with the stock retail cooler is, if it were my chip i would stop at around 1.65v making sure to keep an eye on temperatures until i had looked into it further.
