Multiple sound outputs possible?
Is there anyway to have 2 different sound outputs at all, ie WMC using the HDMI for sound on my HD6950 connected to my TV as a output and a web browser using the on board sound connected to my desktop speakers as a output
Only thing I can find on google is to have the same sound piped to both outputs
Thank
Barry
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
I used to do this to get teamspeak over my USB headset and the rest of the sound via my speakers, I did that by setting the sound output device in the settings for the programs, since the USB headset effectively acts like another sound card. No idea if something is similar over HDMI though.
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
With my EMU 0404 USB, I used to play music via USB with foobar, and then output anything else windows via digital coaxial on the motherboard.
The main thing is you need a least one of the programs to let you select a different output from the windows default. windows media center might be kinda difficult to get using something else, but in WMP you can go options -> devices -> sound -> properties -> and change from the windows default there (although, i dont actually know if it changes from the default, or actually changes the default itself). Other media players like mpc-hc certainly can do it easily. Never really tried with a browser, but it might be possible.
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
Hi not 100% sure what you are saying but as far as I can tell the latest Ati catalyst drivers allow you to change the default audio device depending on the monitor. Ie for programmes running on the TV the default audio device becomes the HDMI output, and for monitor the 3.5m Jack or whatever.
At least I think thats what its doing although I may be wrong!
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
It's nothing really to do with the drivers.....it's an application feature.
Many applications will automatically talk to the primary sound driver in windows. Some will let you choose which driver it talks to. You can only really pump the sounds out the way you want if you have apps that allow the choice of a sound driver.
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
I've never seen settings in a web browser to change the sound output.
Probably you'll want to set the default sound to the sound card in the control panel.
If you don't mind using WMP instead of WMC it is easy to change the output sound. Hit, options, devices, speaekers and you can change from there. I guess it'll be called ATI HDMI or something
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
Basically I want media apps to be sent to my TV via the HDMI and browser to be sent to the normal speakers, not a big issue just annoying having to switch the default sound output all the time.
Re: Multiple sound outputs possible?
I'm getting a bit annoyed changing the default sound output as well. Easiest way I could was just a shortcut to the "change sound card setting" on my desktop so it saves time.
Radeon uses the hdmi audio to the tv so not even my headphones are plug and play. Need to plug them in then switch to digital output. There are no options in the catalyst control centre for any audio settings.
Just realised whilst writing this I can just plug my headphones into my telly. What a **** I am
