My Deathstar is 2.5 years old (60GB 60GXP) and is running fine. It had a hiccup with a bad cluster a month or so ago, but the repair tool from Hitachi fixed it up superbly!
However, I still don't trust any sensitive data to it...
400GB though. Wow, that good.

IBM harddrives are fun, were i work about 18months ago all we saw was IBM harddrives come back with the COD error (Click Of Death). i was thinking of smapling the noise and mixing it into a sound track as some sounded pretty funky (aphex stlye!)
Mmmmm, I have just purchased 2 160g Hitachi deskstars (£133 from scan) for a raid array. I did some extensive research cos I have known so many people lose data using the IBM Deathstars which I wouldn't touch for love nor money.
As I understand it IBM sold that division off to Hitachi who make the drives in Thailand. The design doesn't resemble the old IBM design and I've heard only good things. 3 year warranty included.

I still can't believe they kept the name tbh. Well I'll certainly post a thread entitled "iranu eats his hat over Deathstar fiasco" if they go belly up within 3 years.
