    Question Silent cooling P4 Prescot

OK, I just replaced my P4 2.8 Northwood with a P4 3.0 Prescot. My SB61G just cant handle all the extra heat & load temps have shot up. I was using the stock cooling with adequate results, now however it's running @ 76C & is a bit on the noisty side .

So, time to upgrade the cooling, but it has to be as quiet as poss! Suggestions please.

    Cheers

M8 sorry to tell you this but the SB61G2 does not support prescott. Sure it will fit in the socket, but the heat it produces cannot be handed by the 61's ICE system. 76C is VERY HOT. It's well known that the prescott family of cpu's currently are just not an option due to the heat output, which are averaging 60-70C under load and thats with decent HSF setups. I feel very worried for your components inside that Shuttle, Im surprised you have'nt had stability issues yet. For cooling other than drilling new vents into the Shuttle and pulling that hot air out (More Noise) I'd suggest you move back to your old Northwood which perform better anyway. Sorry.

I'd live to, but it's a bit impractical atm. Looks like the Northwood'll have to go back in & i'll flog the Prescot.

Why did you need to replace it anyway? The P4 prescot not only runs at silly temperatures, it's also slower than the Northwood aswell!

The prescot does have its advantages.....

But I do see no reason why he would have did that..

The 2.8 Northwood will overclock and be quicker than the prescott anyway, and you'll still be able to cool it in the shuttle

Shuttle's SB61G2 v3 does offer Prescott support. I think I saw them for sale on their US website. Don't remember the price...
