    HELLLP hard drive problem

    Hello Hexus right i have a major problem ive just got my new pc bits and put them all together but at somepoint during the build this happened to my hard drive

    ive plugged it into my external caddy and it doesnt recognise it thats when i noticed the break in the ribbon cable

    what can be done about this have i just totaled the hard drive or is this possible to fix this is a 2tb hard drive with all my of work photos and videos on i really do not want to lose the content

    any suggesttions ? can i buy just the ribbon cable and replace it ?


    p.s. just realised how nice the iphone 4s is at actually taking pictures

    I would be inclined to look at where the solder points are at each end for that broken track and solder a by-pass cable in place.

    if im going to that hassle would it not be easier and safer to replace the whole thing my dad is an electrical engineer and my mate does soldering on circuit boards so i can get it done i just dont know where i would get something like that to replace it.

    i would like to continue using the hard drive but i think with jsut a bit of cable it would be a bit of a bodge and likely to fail

    or is this a case of get data off and get new hard drive

    Well, to me it looks like they are only carrying power to the motor......so I cannot see why a patch cable wouldn't work.....plus the solder points look pretty nice to solder onto.

    As long as the job is done properly and works, I'd be happy to carry on using it.

    This is all based on them carrying power though......if they are data connections then I wouldn't feel so confident.

    that is a good point ive been thinking and i have old hard drives atm home if i cut the ribbon cable out just the broken bit and soldering on a patch peice
