    Flakey LG DVD-rom

I have a LG DVD-rom in my new pc (along with a LG DVD-RW/RAM drive)

    - there less than year old but whenever i try and use the Dvd rom drive hard (ie extracting a 4GB back up from a DVD-rw) it doesnt read right, it works, but it make a hell of a noise (kind of like its stoping and starting/seeking excesicly) and its really slow

    - anyone know whats going on, how likely is it that i can get a replacement??

    thanks daniel

oh, and i think i got it from dabs (and i'lls till have the invoice email)

Start an RMA to Dabs. I don't think LG will touch it, you have to deal with the reseler.

Thats a shame. I bought an LG DVD rom on the back of some good reviews. Supposedly they are good. Mine has worked no problems - quiet, quick, smooth tray operation. Maybe you got one made on a Friday afternoon.

    Good luck with the RMA.

My QDT 16x DVD Rom tends to make a funny noise every once in a while, just over the past 2 or 3 months the green LED indicating disc reading activity has been turning orange when the noise occurs. The drive moans for around five minutes, freezing every window on screen. When its done, if i can be bothered to wait, or when i eject the dvd, every window returns unharmed, besides wmp10 which remains frozen lol
Anyways its a bugger for msn, as ppl can still send me messages, yet i dont get em!
So i reckon my QDT is gonna die sooner or l8r, thankfully its only £20 for a decent samsung one from Dixons. But my original drive was a samsung and something inside broke, rendering the drive hapless and nothing more than a cd rom/cd player, so in other words a 48x cd rom drive with dvd on the front

ahh had this problem with a DVD Rom, although my DVD-R has no problem at all! I think its the laser giving up, mine read DVD's ok, but kept "spitting"(ejecting) CD's of any kind. Then it gave up completely.
