Price Check - Do I have to re-mortgage?

LOL Pat and his prices has got me wanting to order a 6800 Ultra (damn you! lol)

I want to try to recoup as much as possible lol, I am switching back to nVidia purely on the fact that ATi drivers do my head in every time they release its so annoying to need to upgrade for one game fix.

Depending on what I can get for them I may also upgrade my P4, so whats the following worth now?

Sapphire 9800XT 256mb card, all the boxes, manuals etc etc but no HL2 voucher.
    P4 2.4 533FSB
    MSI 845PE Max 2 Motherboard
    2 x 512 PC2700

Appreciate any estimations people can give as i will be selling it soon.

This stuff is all gonna go but its whether I do it now or wait till next pay day

Many reviews indicate that it's not worth upgrading to the new cards if you have a 9800 already...

I agree, why upgrade, but its like this, I can go back to Nvidia for half price, I have paid for the 9800XT and it still has residual value, its best to do it now befroe it comes along and I would have to fork out the full money for a 6800 Ultra, at least this way its only half price seeing as the 9800Xt is already paid for.

Many thanks for the prices folks, looks like its gonna be next pay day

I agree with the rest of your post, but not this bit. What are the merits for you of going "back to nVidia"? It sounds like you're basing your purchase on manufacturer rather than performance. If, for example, Linux driver support was part of your reasoning, then I'd understand.

Yeah its all down the the ATi Drivers, they are just such a nightmare, true I probably need to format my machine again, but when I went from a Ti4800se to this ATi card I had to format then too.

Its always when you get round to instaling an ATi driver it seems by the time you have done it a new one is released the following day, it does my knut in!

hehe ATIs driver problems still exist =) even though they are a heck of a lot better than they used to be. I only have one now 'cos of the prices when i got my 9800...I owuld prefer an Nvidia card anyway tbh

Bloody hell. The kid wants to upgrade his graphics card, and he gets moaned at.

Fact is, due to the vast improvments over the 9800XT \5950Ultra, that the X800XT \ 6800Ultra have brought to the table, that those older cards are now entry level, mid range cards. Enthuisiasts like to upgrade their graphics cards to stay on the cutting edge, and a 9800XT is outclassed by far too great a margin by the new ATi cards, to be considered anything other than entry level.

Yes, its a lot of money, but its his money; same as it was my money when I ordered my X800XT. If you don't think its worth it, don't do it; but don't moan at others doing it. If he doesn't want an entry level card in a gaming rig, then its time to upgrade.

Personally, with Doom III, Half Life II, Rome: Total War, STALKER and other games coming out soon, I think now is the perfect time to sell last generation high end cards, for current top of the line models, although personaly, I'd go for the X800XT.

Go for it m@ttz, it'll be a ton of fun having a brand new, bleeding edge graphics card.

Not you Kezzy boy, more refering to the standard 'You must have more money than sense' remarks that seem to be dragged out, when someone mentions upgrading from an entry level 9800XT, to a high end card.
