I'm looking for a cheap RAID card. Must support at least 8 SATAII disks and RAID 6. The cheaper the better. Any suggestions?

To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
You'll be hard pressed to find a raid card that doesn't cost an arm and a leg for hardware RAID6. (3Ware 96xx series, Areca, perhaps from LSI and Adaptec)
There are plenty of cheap 8 port card from Dell / hp (look on ebay) and Supermicro for less than 100 quids if you're lucky. Then use Linux software RAID6 will do what you wanted to.

Areca are the best, but Highpoint cards are cheaper and can do RAID6. I have the RAID5 card, and that has been going strong for many years.
I plumped for a 32 port LSI SAS jobbie. Just hope I get no troubles when I plug it into the 'intended for VGA' x16 slot.

I'm being naughty here and resurrecting this...
My question is same as OP's, but wonder if any new products on the market have made (hardware) 8-port Raid6 on-the-cheap (<£150) possible.
Well: are there any?
Perc/6i will be your best bet in this price bracket.
If you can drop R6 requirement there are two more cards worth looking into.
