    Memory speed Question

Hi, i have a Dell Dimension 4500 with the original motherboard which supports upto 1GB of DDR266.

I currently have 256MB and am looking at going upto 1GB, because of farcry.

What i want to know is, if i buy 2x512MB of DDR400 will it work in my DDR266 supporting motherboard?
I know it would only work at DDR266 speeds but its about £3 cheaper at crucial for DDR400 and would be a better purchase because i would look at changing the motherboard in the future.

    Many Thanks
    Ben

    Thanks CrapshoT,

    This is my setup:
    Dell Mobo
    2.26Ghz 533Mhz
    256MB PC2100 DDR RAM
    40GB 5400 RPM Western Digital
    ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128MB 256bit
    Sound Blaster Live 5.1
    DVD/CRRW Combo
    Jeantech 300W PSU
    80mm fan (i think)
    Harmon Kardon 395 (I think)
    Dell Analogue 17" TFT
    Dell keyboard and mouse
    Windows XP Pro
    Microsoft Office XP Small business

I'm only 15 so i can't afford to do butg upgrades, i would replace the case+mobo first (You have to replace the case+mobo together in a Dell) but because Farcry is struggling i thought i would get the RAM first

I asume i'm doing the right thing to get 1GB Cruical DDR400 for £115?

Yes mate thats the best option if your going to be upgrading the board. A gig will see you right for farcry but you are going to need a new board.

Yep looks like you'd need to upgrade your case + mobo sooner or later.Good gfx card tho.At least you know your memory will last your next upgrade.
