    LaserJet 4000n says its a 4100 and prints garbage..?

    Hi,

    we've got this 4000n, at least thats what the printer says on the tray 1 door.

    Print config map, and it says 4100.

    Install drivers (4100 PS/PCL 6/PCL 5e, 4, 4000) and print a test page...all I get is loads and loads of pages with a few characters at the top.

    I'm sure I've seen this before...is it just a bad driver, or is the printer knackered?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    The 4000 series drivers are a nightmare, I know we had to reinstall the same drivr three times to get 7 PC's to be able to print.

    I would try the PCL 4000 driver, its what we used in the end on ours in the office and thats what worked best overall.

    I can't say I've had huge problems with that 4000 series of printers before, and I set up the print server for my old school, which had a few of these connected to it.

    I just grabbed the PCL driver from the HP website and all worked well...
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Its quite odd though, the printers downstairs print fine on a LJ 4 driver, and they are 4100s too....maybe a duff/dodgy printer.

    I'm gonna try a Xerox photocopier thing instead later on!

    Thanks guys.
