    I need some help

have recently purchased complete new components.
i'm trying to build my own system.

    System:
    athlon 64 3000+
    XFX nvidia 6800G
    sata 120g
    512mb

do you think a cheap 400 watt PSU is capable of powering this?

or do i need a more expensive one?

don't get a really cheap one as its more likepy to fry your parts

Look at a thermaltake 480W for £55 or something like that

    NO.

    A QUALITY ( around £40 - £50) 400+W PSU. YES

If you're on a budget and need a decent PSU, Thermaltake, CWT, Vantec's "ION" range and Tagan are the ones to go for.

    Try this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=59491
(This is CWT by another name)
    P4C 2.4Ghz | Asus P4P800 Deluxe | 2x512Mb GeiL Ultra DDR500 CL2-3-3-6 | Sapphire Radeon 9700 128Mb | Soundblaster 128 | Western Digital 120Gb 7200rpm 8Mb cache
    CoolerMaster Centurion w 2x120mm | Thermaltake 420W PSU
    Iiyama Prolite E435S 17" TFT | Logitech MX510 and Cordless Keyboard | Pioneer DVR109XL (Black) | Labtec Spin 60

They seem to be around 70 quid on komplett/scan/aria. Be warned with some Tagan psus they make a ticking sound.

I have that with my Tagan, its not that bad, its just when my system is in "quiet mode" and I go and put my head inside my case or put my ear next to my case you can hear it, it sounds like if you are clipping the edge of a fan with a leaf or your finger, and its very random, only does it a bit, nothing to worry about though, who cares if it makes a bit of noise, the fans are quiet and it supplies quality voltages!

Yea There seems to be some confusion from retailers about whether this is normal or not. They seem to run fine tho.

If you have bought decent kit, dont ruin it and buy a cheap psu - its one of the most important components in your pc and can make all the difference.

i bought my 600w (or near it) for 20 - but only cos maplins screwed up and i got like a 70 discount on it.

Trust me - dont take the risk - something that happened to my mate was his power supply was too weak, and so the thing drawing least power died first - which happened to be his processor fan - which in turn meant the processor overheated and melted.
