    2x 120mm or 1x 140mm Fan?

Which offers the better cooling between one 140mm fan or two 120mm fans?

    Thanks,

    What are you cooling?

Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean

    Re: 2x 120mm or 1x 140mm Fan?

    what are the fans?

if you're talking abut front fans for your NZXT Phantom 410 I'd probably go with two low rpm 120mm fans around the 1000rpm the air flow will be low but plenty for hard drives and noise will be low too.

Thanks Pob255, any recommendations on some red LED fans (the two 120mm for the front and one 140mm for the side).

    Re: 2x 120mm or 1x 140mm Fan?

Depends what you're after, how much noise you'll put up with and how much you're willing to spend.

The Bitfenix spectre fans are nice, 1000rpm, low noise, fairly cheap, come in a range of led colours
I'm not sure how good the new spectre Pro fans are, they should be good but do cost more.

the Yate-loon D12SL-12 and D14SL-12 are worth a look, basic decent and cheap

Areocool sharks might be worth a look, put out more air but are louder
As would the silverstone air penetrators (although I think the 120mm only come in red led's)

More led glowyness then have a look at the Enermax Apollish fans

If you want really funky then I still don't think you can beat the old thermaltake Cyclo Pattern fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe22t-pmK5I they do move a load of air but they are also rather noisy and trying to reduce the speed dims them rapidly.
I'm still using one in the front of my case, via a 7v molex mod and I had to ask my dad to knock out a couple of resistors from it so it didn't dim the led's (of course it I tried to run it at 12v now it'd just burn the led out) at 7v it's not silent but it's low noise and liveable.
They also don't cast light, are 38mm thick and can only be attached from one side as the other side is a sort of bubble shroud.

One thing to remember is that LED's will get dimmer if you reduce the voltage to reduce their speed (so fans get around this with separate headers for the LED's)

I normally use www.specialtech.co.uk for my fans as they have a very good range and fairly low cost royal mail postage option.
Also Scan, their range isn't quite as good but I'll often throw a fan into an order or to make it up for the free postage
ps if you want a basic cheap fan filter these silverstone ones are really nice http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm...an-top-product looks good too.

    Re: 2x 120mm or 1x 140mm Fan?

    Hey,

Thanks for all that Pob255, the next thing I'll be asking you is to build it all for me lmao!

I'm at work right now but should be home by 9am so will have a good look at the different stuff you mentioned then. I don't want it to sound like a rocket ships taking off when I power on the PC but some noise if fine (my old rig is far from silent), since I'm now almost £2000 deep in to this build I'm going to say money is no object and finish the bad boy off properly with some nice fans (My Mrs will love me for spending over 2k on a computer - I think a Spa day treat might be in order ). That Cyclo's light pattern looked crazy lol although if they are loud I might only get one for the side of the case. The filters look good and for that price who can complain!

    Thanks,
    Rookie

Looks like the Thermaltake Cyclo is out of stock//discontinued everywhere oh well I think it might end up having to be the enermax ones for the case.... one thing though, damn their expensive!!

    Re: 2x 120mm or 1x 140mm Fan?

I use the filters and they are easy to fit, look good and do a good job although they will diminish the amount of colour coming out of the front especially as the dust bunnies are caught.

The basic bitfenix spectres are very good fans for the money. I have 3*red 120mm and 2* red 140mm in my case and are almost silent at 100%
