    Nvidia SLI (Scalable Link Interface)

Just read in issue 17 of PC extreme about Nvidias SLI.

In short its using two graphics cards to act as one like dual
    CPUs.

Pretty interesting and Nvidia claim an 87% improvement in frame rates.
Although it said it can be over 100%.

Also they talk about an Alienware computer which does the samething, who claim about 50% improvement... using their teaming software.

So when will you overclocking nutters be getting one or is it two?? apparently it needs PCIexpress borads with two native 16x slots.

It seems that you use normal cards and you just stick a little pcb connector between cards and install the software.

Well they sound like they are only for the hardcore.

Check out voodoo 2's. Old technology using SLI Its nothing new, its just only now that the large companies can be bothered to intergrate it.

    heh

Nvidia bought 3dfx didn't they if I recall correctly, and now its the return of the old technology to help improve the new technology.

I for one, personally am waiting for a dual PCI-E x 16 motherboard with the nforce 4 chipset before I start building my next PC. Hopefully Nvidia and the rest of the people involved in releasing all these parts will make it a happy christmas in the monkey household

It basically means that you can buy 2 lower end cards, possibly waiting a couple months in between to get more money, and end up with better performance than 1 high-end card, and have it a lot more affordable.

Scan Line Interleave was the technology name for 3dfx.
Scalable Link Interface is the one Nvidia are going to use.

    Talk about marketing
