Need to cool and reduce noise of my noisy hot pc

Hi guys. Can anyone give me any advice on cooling my pc down? I have a prescott and is running at 62/63 degrees C and need advice on a new heatsink for that. Also is it my fans on my case making the noise? Im pretty much a noob on computers and need a lot of help.

If you can find the products ad microdirect that would be great. thx

Thats what buying a prescott does to you .Those are kinda normal temps for a prescott. And yes it is your fans making the noise. How many of what size have you got?

panaflos are a good buy for your case fans - dorothy bradbury is prob the best/cheapest seller. Has her own site and links in ebay. Don't know what graphics card you've got but I've found arctic cooler silencers to be very good and reduce noise. For your HSF I would go with a decent copper heatsink and then put on an adjustable fan so you can keep it quiet and then turn it up when you're gaming or whatever.

so a rough guess would mean he has two 80mm fans at the back and one 120mm fan which is on the side...

They are all the same size , i checked my case on the net raidmax cobra

    http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie...RaidMax_Cobra/

3 80mm fans. what does front mounting to accommodate up to four 80mm fans mean? Where is front mounting?

Also do any of you guys know how to stop my fan on my mainboard making a noise? Its happened 3 times and i open my case and press it in and then it works fine. If i leave it, the fan comes to a complete stop after about 2 mins.

    Cheers

Re: "Can anyone give me any advice on cooling my pc down? I have a prescott and is running at 62/63 degrees C and need advice on a new heatsink for that."

I've just replaced my stock HS/FAN with a Zalman:

    http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/...95&cat=&page=1

It's silent at 2000rpm. Temps are very good too (i.e. less than Intel stock HS/FAN, even when running in silent 2000rpm mode). It doesn't mention the prescott in the blurb, but does mention the socket type - and I'm guessing you aren't on an LGA Prescott. Might be worth checking for compatibility first, but this Zalman did get excellent reviews.

Re: "Also is it my fans on my case making the noise? Im pretty much a noob on computers and need a lot of help."

It is in my case (no pun intended). I plan to try some of the noise reducing gaskets first, and then only replace my 4 x 80mm case fans if needed. I will probably use Zalman 80mm, as they are quiet and cheap; Papbst are also nice, but a bit pricey.

Might be worth doing what I did, and reboot your machine several times with individual bits unplugged, just to find out where the noise is coming from. That's what led me to do the CPU fan first (and the machine is MUCH quieter now), and then realise the next noisiest thing was my case fans - as I actually thought it was my hard drive, but that in fact turns out to be silent.

Every PC is different, so you'll have to do some testing on your own rig.

I also found www.quietpc.com to be a good place to read up and get ideas. Never ordered from them though, so can't say any more than that.

    Cheers,

    Nomadd

This view is the one they're refering to: http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie...Cobra/1020.htm

You can install up to 4 80mm fans behind that front panel. By the looks of it, the grills are pretty restrictive - it would be a good idea to dremel these out, if you feel comfortable with that.

Sounds like the bearings on the fan wearing out. If you're motherboards still under warrenty, it would be a good idea to get this replaced.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

You really want to change to 120mm fans if you think it is all too noisy. Either a new case or some modding may be in order. I find noiseblocker fans quite good really. I know this may sound strange, but PC world have a good one called a Jeantec Phong (I think). I have heard good things about it. Or you could watercool, but water near electronics scares me!
