    Question Why does FSB and memory frequency need to be the same?

    Hello overclocker Gurus!

    The overclocking guides basically all suggest that you need to keep your FSB and RAM speed in sync ...

    ... Why?

    Is there maybe other good and usable "ratios"? Could people maybe give us some alternative suggestions which worked for you?

    well you could lock your ram speed and increase cpu fsb if required, if your board allows that is

    Why?

    Because it's the most efficient

    You could have the ram faster than the fsb, or vice versa, but then either the ram or the cpu is waiting for each other before it can move onto the next operation.

    It basically results in better performance

    Exactly, It just creates a bottleneck in the system when they are running at different speeds and will probably result in lower benchmarks.

    Dont make me come over there and give you a slap teaching or degree or not

    OK for a beginner use my method, if you think your more seasoned go with ratios or equal bus raising it all helps in the ends and results in less diss's of other users for me

    well saying "must" is wrong. it depends on the processor acrhitecture. basically you really really have to keep them in synch on amd32, on ia32 or amd64 you can run out of synch.

    I hear and believe you that it gives better performance, but WHY? If you only increase the CPU clock multiplier the CPU will spend even more time waiting on memory!

    The multiplier doesn't communicate with the rest of the PC like the FSB does..

    Instead of 333 and 400MHz, imagine it at 1 and 2Hz

    Then imagine this, you have 2 workers, picking apples off trees, one worker takes the apples off the tree, the other takes the apples from the first worker and puts them in the basket, worker 1 has two hands, but worker 2 only has one hand.

    Worker one can take two apples off the tree, but worker one with one hand can only take one apple from worker 1 to put in the basket..

    It's going to work, but not as well as if both of them had two hands..
