CPU vs System Temps
i got a Abit AT7-max2, the mobo comes with "winbond hardware doctor"
which says "system 44c" "CPU 39"
when i set up MBM i check the site for which sensor it thins is which, and theres two "at7-max2" listings - and neather list sensors i have (for the CPU)
- so, which is higher, CPU or "system" (which is right next to the Nbridge)
- normaly i'd say "CPU gota be hotter" - but the nbridge is very warm (stock fan) and the winbond doc says its the system that hoter
help, im confused
-
What cooling do you have on the chip? It could very well be possible that the proc is lower than the northbridge. Try getting a bigger fan blowing onto the northbridge and see if temps decrease.
-
u can get a zalman northbridge cooler cheap these days, or just one of theyre heatsiinks, my mate says theyre usefull
-
the NB currently has the stock "abit" cooler - which is just the silver Vantec iceberg alu cooler (image below)
- im geting one of thos blue zalman things soon.
- and the CPu cooler is also a stock alu thing (with fan speed reduced)
i'll have another go at cooling the sensors (mobo manual points out excectly where they are)

Turn your cpu fan up and see which temp goes down the most :P
-
Start encoding a long video, if the CPU one increases above the the System one, you know the readings are correct. If system remains the highest, they must be switched.
-
well, i did some more playing :p
- and im fairy sure the CPU is the lower one
- ran heatup (the mbm prog) and it over the "system" temp
- stoped the cpu for about 1min, "cpu" went upto about 50C
thanks anyway guys
