Creative SB Recon 3D Wont fit my Corsair Obsidian 650D

    Hey,

I've just had my Creative SB Fatal1ty Recon 3D Champion arrive this morning, I've popped the soundcard in to my motherboard but when I've come to install the front bay in to my Obsidian 650D it wont auto clip in like the other drives do, also if I remove the auto clip from the side of the bay and try to push the Creative drive back in to the bay it wont go far enough back to be screwed in. Anyone got any ideas or is this just part of the continuing problem that I seem to be having with EVERY PART that I buy for this bloody new computer??

Scan are going to love me if I have to request an RMA on this in less then a hour after receiving it - Anyone else bought this and had the same problem?

    Regards,
    Rookie

Try a different drive bay further down. Sometimes they have spacers in to allow for cabling etc.

Re: Creative SB Recon 3D Wont fit my Corsair Obsidian 650D

A few pictures just to give a better idea of what I'm meaning,

Also while the drive is like this it can be moved freely forward so if in some strange unfolding of events it was to come out of the front of my Obsidian 650D it would pull the sound card and possibly half of my motherboard with it - Knowing my luck this week this could happen!!

Oh, but aside from the problem with the drive fitting the Obsidian 650D's bay the sound quality to my Audio Receiver is superb

All bays are full - I will try swapping the NZXT controller with it but then I'm going to have some wire issues to hide lol!

Just tried it in the top bay where the fan controller was and its a no go there, I've also popped the Blu-ray and DVD drives out and it doesn't sit flush in either of them

RMA time maybe? - Sucks to be me

    Not RMA - DSR.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Sorry, my mistake. I've just got that use to saying RMA with all the other faults I'm having with my new computer. The down side to DSR is that although through no fault of my own it does not fit, I'm going to have to foot the return postage >.<

Er, why are you using a card like a recon3d if you're just going to be bypassing the DAC and outputing to an audio receiver? You could use an onboard sound chip and you wouldn't notice the difference.

My onboard doesn't have DDL which I need for the MixAmp for my Astro A40's - It looks like i'm going to be in the market for a new DDL sound card now anyway so any suggestions?

Sorry, thought you were passing it to a receiver.

    Get an Asus Xonar DX.

Would I not need to connect via optical for it to work with my Astros? I know it says it has optical in the tech-spec but I can't see it on the back of the card.

Ah nice, I didn't see that when I looked at the card on Scan. I'm guessing that through the adapter I would still get the exact same quality sound I would through a native Optical port?

    Thanks for the help Kalniel

Re: Creative SB Recon 3D Wont fit my Corsair Obsidian 650D

Before you go juming into returning it, take it out, turn it round and see if it will slot in, it could be that the front bezel is half a mm too wide or tall
If that is the issue, then it could just be tolerances, corsair have made the drive bay to a tighter tolerance and creative has made the bezel to a lower tolerance, it's fairly easy to shave a bit of plastic off the edge of the bezel.

If the front bezel is the same width as the rest, then you need to look inside the drive bay because it catching on something.
Could be the tabs on the right side http://images.tweaktown.com/content/...eview_full.jpg you can see them on here, they are bent in slightly to act as a spring to put some pressure on the side of a drive to help hold it in, but it could be blocking you.
You might have to strip your pc down a bit to be able to get in side there and find what's catching it.

Have you been drinking lol? It’s a £170 Soundcard, what would I do if It stopped working after I had custom installed it by altering the bezel, I don’t think Scan would take it back lol! Seriously thought I know where you’re coming from but at the price that it cost I couldn’t risk trying to cut it down in case I damaged it.

Anyway, it’s been returned now so too little too late. I did try it in all 4 bays, I tried fitting it without the front bezel and then reattaching it but that didn’t work either and finally I tried forcing it to fit which again it would not so by this point I decided that I would be best to return it and just go for a standard soundcard without the front drive bay part.

I just now need to make up my mind on a soundcard just for use with my Astro A40’s and I think the Asus Xonar could be it.

Does anyone know if there are any Asus Xonar soundcards with DDL that don't require an additional power cable?
