What things are much cheaper in the USA than here?

Well now, Im going away to the US of A in a weeks time, and will have a villa type thing for two weeks, so thought I may take advantage of strong exchange rates. Can't afford too much stuff though, was thinking 6800 for about £160 from NewEgg. Cant afford any more than that really, but any other suggestions of US bargains? Or other good US retailers? Any compatibility issues between US stuff and ours?

6800 is £180 here so its not THAT much of a bargain. Cameras....definitely are cheaper over there, canon eos-300D that is £650 cheapest here is like £350 over there

Also ram isnt particularily cheap from what i've seen. Be careful with buyin big stuff that you obviously didnt take over there cos customs might want some £££ to let you through

    ROFL!!!

You might have trouble with NewEgg.com, I think they will only accept USA credit cards......

Best bet is to pick up a local news paper as soon as you get there and check out the mailshots, they give you all the best deals, Best Buy, CompUSA and Fry's are going to be your best bet as you can just go in and get it.

CompUSA is a ripoff. BestBuy and Fry's are better. Newegg, ZipZoomFly, Monarch Computers, and (sorta) GameVE are pritty good. Most of these places will only take US credit cards, but it's not hard to pay someone cash and have them order it for you.

You won't run into any trouble from customs for some electronics/computer parts.

Over here (in South Africa) you can get a receipt before you leave the country for any items you take out of the country so you don't need to pay import tax when you return. It is a schlep, so you would only do this for expensive items which does not look worn, items which you think you would pay import tax on - so you might declare your video camera or similar things - you obviously would not need to declare your clothing and such! :-)
