    A Tough Decision

    Hey Guys,

Need some help here, most of you will know I've been having a lot of problems with my OC Bundle from Scan. Anyway, they have asked if I would be willing to change from the ASRock Fatal1ty Pro z77 motherboard to the Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE because it would be better to OC on but the problem with it is that it's BLUE!! And everything in my system in coloured Red and Black....

I did mention this to the guys over at Scan and they have also said they would offer me either of these two, the Asus MAXIMUS V GENE or the Asus Sabertooth Z77 and refund the difference but I'm really not sure.

What do you guys think? I did ask about compensation but they didn't seem very forthcoming in regards to offering any..... Which is nice to know after my two weeks of fun fun fun

Both of those are good boards. You can't go wrong with either of them.
If you're worried about the colour get the one you like the best. I like a plain black box myself.

    Re: A Tough Decision

While the red and black on the Maximus Gene fits perfectly, it is an mATX board so it might not offer you future expansion possibilities which is why I'd go with the Sabretooth which is almost all black with a single large brown Heatsink over the chipset, I think that's the one that would work best with your rig. Though I do like the look of the Gigabyte Assassin G1 with its black and green colouring, the green would compliment the red well, IMHO.

I can't seem to make my mind up, my worry with the P8Z77 is that it would make my system look silly//miss matched which wouldn't be too bad if I hadnt bought a case with a huge window in it lol!

The Sabertooth doesn't look to far way from my ASRock Fatal1ty, I'm not sure what it will be like to overclock on And I've read bad things about the board mounted fans which could be a deal breaker.

Would the mATX board not look a little silly in my Corsair Obsidian 650D because it's a BIG case! Also would it have everything I need to connect up everything I've already bought??

don't get a mATX, a mATX looks silly in a small ATX case.

Hmmmm. I'd ask for a whole new bundle. It doesn't work - they have to fix it with the same stuff that you paid for.

From what I can gather they don't seem confident doing the OC on the ASRock board and would rather do it on the Asus...... Do you think I would be best asking for the same bundle, my money back for the OC charge, some compensation and then just overclock it myself??

Let's assume you opted for a refund on the OC and did it yourself. How certain are you that you will be able to succeed where Scan didn't?

Well I can't be, nothing is 100%. Maybe Scan got a bad board, a bad CPU or something else that has caused the problems with the overclock but it has left me in a not so good situation, do you not think?

I could just say I'm no longer interested and return the full OC bundle but that doesn't really solve my problem because I'm still going to be stuck with the other parts that I have bought and will only have to buy the same stuff again elsewhere and I could even encounter the same problems as I have this time.

    Re: A Tough Decision

I must admit I do like the cover idea on the sabertooth motherboard what's more they are pretty much just for show and and air flow guide (it's not a heatsink/heatspreader, it's made of plastic), I've seen mods where people have removed the cover (easy to do) so they could paint them, to really give the motherboard a custom look.
Know anyone with air brush skills?
Even if you don't paint it with the cover on it makes for a plain black background

Although I don't see why they've got a problem with the ASRock Fatal1ty Pro not like that one is a low end z77 motherboard
