last bios was 2001 so it might be a bit dodgy.. give it a try though, it's not going to do it any harm.. unless you're a clutz

mmmm with a bios that old its doubtful it will support 160 and above....just had to update a mates kt 266 bios to a 2002 bios so it would take his new 160 drive. and with new bios it had a lot of dma problems.... good luck though

partition to two 80 gigs Im sure that'll work and partition magic allows startup on boot so your ok Im sure your board will at least detect it as a drive of some standing
thats if Im thinking of the correct way
all i can finf on the chaintech webby is references to the 7aja 2 which is a via kt133a board. So i assume that the original 7aja was the original kt133 chip. mmm thats pretty old Howard..... same as my abit kt7 i had for the last 4 years and dumped 6 months ago and im prety sure that wouldnt have taken a 160gb drive. Im still pottering around the chaintech webby to find out more but its slow going on dialup.

yeah you could partition it to 2 80's or 4 40's etc but it would have to be done on another machine as the mobo simply wont see the extra space.

Well the kt133A supports up to tbred 2600 with latest bios..... thats cos it can handle 266 fsb, though the kt133 can only handle 200fsb
nothing on HDs though

I didn't think it was possible to run a tbred on a KT133 chipset. Perhaps it's just my jetway board. Anyway my KT133 jetway sees beyond 40GB, so it's gonna be the 127GB limit that's the killer. I doubt it has 48bit LBA addressing in it, so partition magic should be able to figure a way to solve the limit...Originally Posted by funnelhead
yeah its the kt133A ver that can i guess rather than the kt133. But Howard might have the 7aja2 and not know it

PM will see it thoughOriginally Posted by funnelhead

ah ok you are saying simply make say 1 80 gb partition and install to it, then partition the remaining 80gb from windows using PM? ok.
Still could be problems though - my mates asus kt266 needed a new bios to work with a 160gb drive at all - couldnt even install to what i could see..... when i did get flashed, partitioned and installed the mobo would only run the drive in pio mode, even though partitions were all under 80gb. In the end ( after 6 days) i found a beta asus util that automatically forced dma. Still runs abit funny though.....
heres hoping howard has better luck...

he could always give it to me in trade for my 2 80 gig drives hehehe
Hmm fair few conflicts here. Hehe.
I think the only way to find out is to whack in my 160gig drive and see how many of those gigabytes are detected. Lol
