    Upgraded from Noctua NH-U12P to Phanteks PH-TC14PE

    Got a great deal on Phanteks PH-TC14PE so decided to upgrade. Best thing I ever did.

    Phanteks is huge... LxWxH = 134 x 140 x 160mm with out fans, 159 x 140 x 171mm with 2 fans and 184 x140 x 171mm with 3 fans. 2 radiators each 50mm long x 140mm wide x 107.5mm high with 34mm between them with 5x 8mm heat-pipes in each. Supplied fans are good but are not PWM so I used my TY140 fans. Phanteks is sending me their External PWM Adapter so they can be controlled by 4 pin PWM motherboard socket. Plan to give the fans a try when adapter arrives.

    Here are some before and after tests:

    Before w/ Noctua NH-U12P w/2x TY-140 fans ducted out top
    ET6 = 10% rpm @ 32c 100% rpm @ 48c 21c ambient

    idle 720rpm @ 36-41c encoding 1280rpm @ 67-70c mobo 37,50,55


    After w/ Phanteks PH-TC14PE w/3x TY-140 fans ducted out top
    ET6 = 20% rpm @ 30c 100% rpm @ 50c 21c ambient

    idle 680rpm @ 35-34-38-34c encoding 1170rpm @ 59-58-60-56c mobo 33-43-44c

    Unplugged top fan and temps same at idle, 1c higher encoding.


    So only 4c cooler at idle.. didn't expect a big difference here... but encoding temp dropped 8-10c with fan running 100rpm slower.


    Not a true test as I also changed my HD 6570 w/ Scythe Setsugen cooler for Gigabyte HD 5770 Silent Cell. Both are low watt idle so should make much if any difference.

    I'm quite happy with the results

    IMHO yes, as long as you are not working it hard.

    There are two different versions of Phenom II X6 1055T processor - HDT55TWFK6DGR with 95 Watt TDP, and HDT55TFBK6DGR with 125 Watt TDP. The HDT55TFBK6DGR has lower maximum operating temperature and slightly higher range of operating core voltages than the 95 Watt version of 1055T.

    We will assume yours is 125w. ****** review used i7 920 full load show Phanteks delta temp of 34.5c passive. Add 22c ambient makes it 56.5c. Maximum operating temp of 1055T is 55-62c.

    If you used 2 fans at 780rpm (14dBA) the delta drops to 32c... I don't think you would hear 14DBa inside a case


    Thermalright Silver Arrow passive is 35.5c delta
    Noctua NH-D14 is passive 37.75c delta

    Silver is nice (they call it white)
