    MSI NEO Platinum Nforce3

    Hello all
bout to UG my PC and OC the CPU (wow nice load of abbreviations going on there), was initially going to go for the nforce3 MSi neo platinum but have seen lots about how crap (pardon my french) it is for overclocking. Have always like the ASUS boards but i hear the K8N or the K8V arent great for overclocking, anyone have some other sugestions at all?

I've used the Gigabyte NVidia and VIA boards, and found that the NVidia overclockers slightly better, but the VIA gives better scores at stock.

So i'd say defo go for the NF3 chipset. Try some of the review sites (like Hexus) and see if there are any reviews of it.

I have never really had any major issues with my Plat.

use SATA 3/4 if you plan to oc but have mine at 270*9.5 allday long with 166mem (runs mem @ 213MHz)

Apart from that can't really fault it!

My MSI K8N Neo Plat runs fine too, just mildly clocked at 220x10 1T 1:1 3200+@3400+ speeds (220Mhz Ram).

Had a few bios issues in the past but getting better, as per Firelord use SATA 3/4 if you want to overclock.

Dead chuffed with this board, much faster than my AXP 2500@3200, the extra 512MB ram I've bought helps too.

havent got the cash for a SATA drive at the mo im afraid so the old clunky IDE will have to do, gonna stick a 64 3000+ on heard i can OC it to about 2.4 ish which should be ok for me. Always been a AMD fan but have been told you can overclock the nuts off pentium 4s (1ghz or so or is that bollocks?) and they are getting cheep enough to be viable now. Never owned an intel but am mulling over defecting.

hmmm have just looked at sata drives and they arent as expensive as i thought, is it possible to use my old IDE drive as well (as storage) along with a SATA drive for the system?

don't forget, all AMD 64 bit CPU's have just had a huge price reduction. There is absolutely no sense in buying Intel, and that's not fanboy-ism (alright, it is!), it's just a fact.

The main reason I'm not buying Intel is becuase I would buy one of the S775 ones and there are no high end (6800GT) PCI-Express video cards around yet.

oh bugger was about to order me 6800 forgot about PCI-E when is that gonna go mainstream. This is always the problem with upgrading there is always something around the corner and if you wait for something new u end up waiting forever
