    Question Got Juice? (PSU Querries)

Got a PSU query. Looking to get a decent psu. Thing is, I'm not sure what wattage I should go for? Currently my MasterMachine looks thus:

    Asus A8V Deluxe S939 mobo
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    OCZ 1Gb PC3700 EB RAM
Asus ATI Radeon AX800 pro 256Mb
    Maxtor DiamondMax 250Gb SATA Drive
    Creative Audigy ZS Platinum Pro

All I need is a power source. Now I'm not sure what wattage PSU to go for. I have been looking at getting one of the OCZ PowerStreams or one of the new CoolerMaster realpowers (When they are released). Any advice/suggestions for me? Maybe recommend other PSU makes?

Seeing as that PSU is going to have a fair amount to do i'd recommend one of the high end jobbies around 500W.
My personal favourite is the 480W Tagan but there are lots of others to pick from.

Sounds like you need around 4-500W, you could probably get by on a 350W - but going a bit higher gives you some headroom, and will generally give you a more stable supply.

Never had a problem with an Antec - most people here like the Tagans - generally you get what you pay for, don't skimp and don't get a Qtec.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

Dont fall for the wattage myth... check out its amps per rail aswell, avoid anything supplying less than 20 amps on the 12v line.

Hmm looks like I'll be avoiding Q-Tec then! As a matter of interest Rythmic, why not Q-Tec? Do they burst into flames or something?

Thanks for the help gents anyway, going to get a nice high power one, most likely the OCZ 520W job (Seen some good reviews on it)

10 points to that man. Thats exactly what they do, blow up, catch on fire and generally destroy your motherboard as well.
I got rid of my last one after it started making an orrible whining noise which I thought might lead to scarier things.

Oh bugger, my mates got a Q-Tec in his machine. And the fan makes grinding noises when it starts up! Time for a new PSU. Or maybe a new machine. Or maybe a new house depending on whats happened recently...

All depends on the system really but any system with a load of high power stuff like yours will murder a Qtec

Just bought a 480W Tagan to replace my 380 Antec, but gotta say with either of those u should do fine. The 380 was powering an o/c'd p4 (2.4@3) fx5900, 3 HD (2xraptors) and 3 opticals. Only reason I upgraded is i wanteda balck psu, .

Antec true 550 will last you about 2-3 years until your geforce 10k requires a 800 watt psu to run properly. This is assuming that Intel realizes it's stupid BTX standard is only worthwhile if you're using your computer as a dutch oven or if you're the sweating owner of a prescott.
