"Corrupt" display output?

Hi Hexites,

For some reason my monitor won't output DVI/DP correctly (I've got an active DP to DVI adapter). It keeps flickering and going to a black screen and when it's not a black screen then it has a very green overlay with zigzags and lines everywhere.

I've tried reseating the RAM and CPU as well as clearing CMOS and removing the battery but it doesn't seem to help.

I'm currently using a HDMI connection from my board to the monitor now and that works fine.

Monitor: Asus VS239H with VGA, DVI and HDMI inputs.
Graphics/Motherboard: Asus F1A75-I Deluxe HD6530 integrated graphics with DVI, HDMI and DP outputs.

I've tested both a single link and dual link cable and the results are the same when connected to both the DVI port and DP to dual link DVI adapter. It was working fine this morning before I disconnected the cable to use with another monitor...

Going to try reinstalling the drivers again.

Does it display the POST screen (memory count, hard drive list, bios settings, etc...) on power on when connect to the DVI port of the monitor?

If not it sounds like physical fault rather than a driver issue.

Yup displays everything. Currently helping my parents at the takeaway do can't diagnose further but I've thought about testing the monitor on other systems as I've just tried a third DVI cable and it's the same. I'll then test another monitor on t own system and run it through some CPU/ram tests.

I hope it aint a CPU or motherboard issue as I bought them second hand so I don't have any warranty to fall back on. It's not fun to be without a monitor either though.. Sigh.

If the DVI connection works before the computer finishes loading Windows and then goes all flickery I would just try doing a System Restore to the previous day.

I meant even during BIOS and POST, the symptoms I describe are there too - but only with the dvi connection. Tested my monitor with a different system's DVI connection and it's fine.

However tested another monitor with the DVI connection on my motherboard and it's not fine. Is it the board's problem or CPU then? Or could there be other problems? I'll get my pc running again through hdmi and post some pictures.

Sounds like a faulty motherboard. Strip the system down to the bare minimum (ie: 1 memory module & boot drive only). As you have already done a bios reset there isn't really anything else you can do.

If you are concerned about CPU/Ram run the Prime95 torture test.

Yup was thinking of running Prime95 on a blend test.

Was running pretty much at bare minimum and also swapped some RAM around. Unfortunately I've not got another AMD APU though so I can't tell if it's the motherboard or the CPU that has problems. I've checked the pins of the CPU and there aren't any bent/missing pints or anything of that sort. I've also made sure that there's no dust or TIM or anything in the CPU slot. Really puzzled as to what the problem is.

I've also tested further and can actually say that the DisplayPort output works fine, so it's only DVI that has problems.

Order another motherboard. It will be easier to return for a refund under DSR, as they tend to come in a non-sealed cardboard box.

I guess that's the most economical way around it, could take advantage of Amazon for that as they're really nice with customer returns.. Don't fancy being stuck without my PC either though. Going to send some emails to Asus support and see what they say.
