System to remote sense/ remote operate a greenhouse - raspberry pi/linux

Hey all,

Wasn't sure where to put this. I'm interested in creating a system for my mums greenhouse that can remote sense things like temperature/humidity, and possible operate a motor under certain conditions to open/shut window etc., possibly a light sensor too which could create a log.

I thought a raspberry pi would make a perfect base for it, but google didn't really help me too much. I assume i'd some sort of usb hub/controller/relay to operate, or are there other products that can do this.?

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction for research/products/software that exists that could do this on a raspberrypi?

Someone has done something fairly similar here:

and claims that a Raspberry Pi will run the data logging software.

You could combine it with a Gertboard (not sure if they're available yet?)
