    Angry Does Gigabyte's Easytune lie about temp?

    I suspect it does - the temp display changes linearly with the increase in CPU clock speed ... even before you apply it!!! But it looks scary.

    Meant to scare off newbie overclockers like me?

    I've read various posts about temp being measured by either a Diode, which it seems is more accurate because it is embedded in the core, or else by a sensor mounted on the motherboard below the CPU, which is supposedly less accurate because of the distance to the core ...

    Is this accurate? How do I know which sensor is being used?

    What I would realy like is a "testing device" which
    a) Is readable by software
    b) Fits in between the CPU and the heatsink
    c) Provides a temp readout on the front of the case
    d) Allows to control the FAN speed for noise reduction
    e) Provides an optional safe-guard, eg turn on an alarm and put the system into hibernation ...

    But mostly I just want a probe which I can stick in there to get an accurate, dependable reading of the temp on the core. I'm sure it must be possible to read the temp using IR ... I'll chat to my electronics boffin buddies ...

    Check out the Coolermaster Aerogate 2 (just google it)

    You wouldnt be able to put a probe on the CPU core as it would just make it burn up, but you could place it on the heatsink, close to it
    iirc, there is 4 probes you can stick around your computer, and you can control the fan speeds.

    What gigabyte mobo you got? Mine doesn't have a sensor in the socket, so it has to use the onboard thermal diode. Motherboard Monitor (not discontinued but still awesome) is what I use to get temps.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I think Gigabyte also suffer from the same problems as Abit for temp measurements - one of the FAQ on their site for the 7N400 range of boards is "Why has my CPU Temp gone up by 15ºC after updating my BIOS?"

    Agent's suggestion is a good one, as I believe is the Thermatake Hardcano 12.

    Hi Agent,
    I was honestly thinking of something which would sense the temp on the core and still conduct the heat away from the core, some kind of a copper-encased sensor?

    In any case, check out this better alternative to "sensing" on the core - not exactly the way I pictured it but probably more practical!
