About LinkBacksAre jeantech psu's any good? trying to choose a 480+ W psu around 40-50 quid and pcworld seem to have tons of these jeantech things, i know that qtech arent the most popular things on here so how about these??

i have a 300W Jeantech and it's a very noisy thing
I have the jeantech 450W 120mm psu which is very quiet but the quality sucks, I had to tie all the power cables down or I got a ticking noise, I'm currently in the process of changing it.
I'm currently getting either the thermaltake Silent 420W for £35.99 or the antec 400 watt for £36.23 but money is my main issue.
They are crap. For that price you could get a high quality CWT form scan.
I had alittle look around at the CWT psu's they did get good reviews and the close link to antec was pointed out, but once opened there was a quality difference, after my jeantech mistake I'm going for top quality only, but for a cheap option they do sound good.
I bought one of the 500W jobs recently because I needed something within minutes rather than days and it looks (and behaves) exactly like my TT 480W.
Whether that's a one off or both are rebadged from the same source I wouldn't know.

I know there is a slight quality difference, but afaik its all asthetics and not related to performance. Also it misses a fwe rarly used features, such as a -5v rail (only used for parrelel/serial ports, atleast in old boards, im unsure about newer ones...).
I expect there is also a difference in the cabling. The CWT's use a rather messy BTX->ATX connector converter, lack sleeving on any but the main cable, and have far too many cables.
If you've noticed a difference in output rails, e.g giving lower output voltages, that would be result of different components, but does not reflect on the ability of the psu. A simple vsense mod will bring it back up to where it should be without any sacrifices. Ive done this and I know get 5.07v, 12.04v and 3.37v.
The version was the CWT-450BD, it seemed to have lower quality heatsinks and capacitors compared to the top end PSU's (which are supposed to use Rubycon capacitors what ever they are), but in a direct test agains the antec it did do very well.
Like the plague...avoid if possible, best to buy a decent brand PSU that will last through a few upgrades, and be rock solid in your rig if you can afford it.

Not too long a thread but worth reading IMO.
Qtec = Rubbish tbh
Jeantech = No great either.
If you want a low cost PSU go to Scan and look at:
1). the Xclio Goodpower PSUs. Excellent value for money with clean power. (Even though they state it, i wouldn't recommend using SLI with these).
2). Fortron Bluestorm PSUs. One of the best Bang-For-Buck PSUs around.
Fortron are good and under rated psus IMO.
One problem that I had with an older (300 or 350) Bluestorm was the main ATX was so short it wouldn't reach the connector on the motherboard. As the motherboard had a 20pin connector and the psu was 24pin I had to use the converter cable and it reached ok.
Not sure of cable lengths these days.
