Finally going 570 SLI; good or bad over 670?

    Hey,

So after a year of waiting for the GTX 570s to come down in price to a reasonable price I have took the plunge!
I'm aware of the power that I will be presented with much more power, but I only use one monitor a 120hz BenQ XL2410T for gaming, second monitor is for facebook, messaging and such.

What do you guys think SLI GTX 570 or a new 670 'if' you're already bought a 570? surely it's cheaper and faster but I hear people just 'going to buy the newest latest and greatest, do people really do that a lot?
Are enthusiasts really that bothered about the power consumption differences between SLI and the newer generation cards, or is it just an excuse to buy the newer card?
It just seems more piggybank friendly from my own perspective, even if it draws that bit of extra power.

The model is Palit GTX 570, it's been very reliable and trustworthy, but has dropped £100 since I bought it off scan, and then bought my second one off scan too! good ol scan

My system just to gloat, as you do

Done a few case mods too; a grommet mod,

Braided and heat shrinked all my fan cables

Sharpie coloured in the power connectors for the case and heatshrinked them blue.

Well you've already bought them, so we're not going to be unkind and say you wasted your money. They rock fine so just enjoy what you have and don't think about the next latest and greatest that's come out

Re: Finally going 570 SLI; good or bad over 670?

It depends on your priorities. As you say, it's graphical horsepower & short-term saving vs lower noise, lower heat, lower power consumption and long-term saving. What's the priority for you?

To be honest I don't have any idea how much extra it'd cost to run two 570s with an 850w PSU over a 670 with a 550w PSU for say, a year or so, but I imagine it's a fair chunk of money.

Re: Finally going 570 SLI; good or bad over 670?

Well I'd have to say I would of sold the 570 and got a 670 instead but that's me as I would prefer better power consumption with a single card also more VRAM and being faster than the previous generation, not forgetting less chance of microstutter.

But like I said that's me and if you are happy that is the main thing.
