    nice but they don't look at prices which is going to be a major factor for nettops, having an i3 mobile processor gives a massive jump in performance but I suspect it's added a big jump to the cost too.

    The VIA Nano X2 does not do too badly! OTH,it really does need a better IGP,although S3 is now owned by HTC??

    This bit surprised me: "The other thing you need to know about Intel's desktop-oriented Atoms is that they don't support SpeedStep, meaning they don't reduce their clock speed and always run at their full operating frequency."

    Please tell me that isn't true, even by Intel standards that would be quite a fail if it is.

    Zotac ID82 barebone is about £300 and you have to add your own RAM and HDD - certainly not cheap...

    that would indeed be a massive fail, esp as the originals do.
    my eeepc 901 (first netbook to use the atom cpu) steps down the multiplier fine.

    Im pretty sure my Aspire Revo speedsteps but i must confess, i have never properly checked. Its just sat gathering dust at the moment anyway, need to sort it out!

    Certainly the first generation only had speedstep for the netbook versions (Nxxx), not the desktop versions.

    A quick check of ark ...... confirms that even the latest generation desktop Atoms (e.g. Atom D2700) do *not* support speedstep. The mobile/netbook versions do, though. Another instance of Intel's feature-ripping differentiation scheme...
