Advice on Keyboard please.
I need some help choosing my next keyboard. I've had a Microsoft Elite Ergonomic keyboard for years but need to change it. My requirements in order of importance are:
Prerequisite
1. Near silent or as quiet as possible
2. Black
3 Volume key/roller
Preferred but optional
4 Good for typing and gaming
5. Back lit keys
6. Ergonomic.
Obviously the less expensive the better but I will pay for quality up to £80. Cheers.
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
well currently the best keyboards people favour are the switch type, however switch keyboards are not quiet.
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
depends on your budget, but if that is not a problem, then I suggest the Razer Black widow Stealth

It's quite tough to get all those features for under £80 but this just about covers it.
There is no point in spending over £30 on a non mechanical keyboard imo, reds should be the quietest, blues the loudest.
If you can afford £93 you can get full backlighting, much better volume control, an ergonomic wrist wrest and macro keys:

I don't know anywhere in the UK you can get the Blackwidow Stealth, and anyway that doesn't have backlighting.
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
It's only available from the Razer store, I believe it's the Black widow Ultimate Stealth which has the backlighting
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
The black widow is really loud due to it having blue switches. Reds and blacks IMO are the quietest.
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
even the stealth version?
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
The stealth uses brown switches, not as loud as blues, but certainly not silent.
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
ahh, Don't have one myself, I was under the impression it was silent,, oh well
Re: Advice on Keyboard please.
I came under the impression that all mechanical keyboards were much louder than membrane keyboards? I've got a standard Logitech Illuminated Keyboard and it's the quietest keyboard I've used (I've only used membranes).
I got mine for £30 though, I wouldn't pay much more than £30 for this though I think.

Some mechanical keyboards can be reasonably quiet, especially if you learn to type without bottoming out the keys.
Blues will always be noisy but are best for typing, browns can be quiet if you are careful, but not silent.
But I would never spend over £30 on a membrane keyboard, you would only be paying for tatty bling.
