Looks like it might be old rules which are not active now.

Seems bloody unlikely, but regardless it would hardly count as gimping when gpu power draw is going down with each new generation (compared to computing power at least), just an incentive to make cards even more energy efficient?

Power going down? Strangely I don't remember 800 watt plus PSUs being mainstream until a few years ago...

Doubt they'll restrict graphics cards - graphics a relatively niche thing. If they really want to reduce power waste they need to tackle it at source and stop incentivising people having so many kids in an overpopulated world. That'll never happen though as the serial -breeders get a vote.

That's got nothing to do with actual power demand, and everything to do with an incorrect 'bigger is better' mentality.

Oh goodness, yes. It extends far past PSUs in my experience. I see the same people go out and buy a new PC every couple of years because they're convinced they need the speed. Nothing to do with the endless bits of software that they've installed from dodgy vendors when browsing the web.

Worse than that, they do almost nothing on them but browse Facebook and watch Youtube. Any low wattage ARM based chip can do that.

In terms of performance per watt, we've never had it so good. The problem is that people are convinced they need more power for their mundane tasks, thus use more watts

EU to gimp future graphics cards?

typical EU sticking there bloody nose in.

If they want to save energy, they should turn the heating off in prisons and take away all the crims TVs. All those bloody meetings the EU has should be stopped too. Think of all the energy spent getting them all there and hosting the meeting.

Everyone by is already saving energy at home cos electricity costs so much.

surely there are less people using PCs as they use tablets for FBing and wed browsing.
