Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Are you planning to overclock?
if so, personally speaking, you need to squeeze a little more out of the budget
i5 3570k http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...he-34x-ratio-7
gigabyte UD5 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...dvi-d-hdmi-atx
total £325
or maybe the msi gd65 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-z...dvi-d-hdmi-atx £311 although personally I've gone off msi boards, still on paper they are really good and a very solid VRM for the price.
Or maybe the asus http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...dvi-d-hdmi-atx
If you don't plan to overclock or just a small overclock, then I'd look at the gigabyte UD3 instead
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...t-dvi-hdmi-atx
or ASRock extreme 4 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asroc...b-dvi-d-hdmi-a
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
^^ Thanks for that, I can strect that a bit. I am going to go for the Asus board, I am not a fan boay, but I ahve always preffered the ASUS board! Great CPU too :D
Ps - Goes without saying HAd a quick scan (lol) and all those parts seem compatiable. I will not overclock unless I need to, but want to have the option in future.
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Perhaps a silly question, but does you still have the fittings for the H60 to fit 1155 boards ?
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
If you don't overclock then the cheaper LE or LX versions would be ok, personally I question the weaker VRM's on these for any form of long term overclocking.
I've had issues with the socket 775 G41 LX boards in the past, VRM failed after 4months with a 33% OC on it, Pentium Dual-Core E2160 @ 2.4ghz, basically changing the fsb from 200mhz to 266mhz which the chipset, ram and cpu can all easily handle, just the VRM couldn't.
Which is why I'd avoid the cheaper LX or LE if you plan to overclock.
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Assume it would be the same as 1366 fittings? As per maunal it comes with intel fittings and amd fittings? Dies say it supports this socet type tho?
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Yt will be different to the 1366 due to the different board layout. The cooler should come with a bag of bits and a manual. In the bag will be a set of small brackets that ensures it will fit the new board.
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Correct does come with bracekts, I assumed they were the AMD mounts haha lo
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
The holes are in a slightly different place, the socket 1156 is the same mounting holes as 1155 so it might be called that in the manual.
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Hey @phage,
Are you able to post a pic of what the mounting screw/brackets look like, tried to uplaod a picture of the ones I have left via iphone but this does not work. Im sure I have the correct ones tho.
Ps the new processor, does it come with thermal past already applied? I need to removed old thermal past from H60 is it best to use paper towel and ear buds or use artic clean (used arti clean on processers and works fine, but never had to sue it on a cooler, don't know if they are any good to clean coolers)
Thanks
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Looks like you may have a unversal fitting ?
http://www.corsair.com/applicationnote/H60_Intel
Offer the backplate and cooler to the board and see if you can get the holes to line up. The backplate looks like it has moveable slots.
Please - you need to clean up your typing first. What's the question ?
There will be no paste on the new CPU. You will need to apply some. It should be supplied with the H60. If not any named brand like this will do.
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/arcti...oolers-35-gram
You will need to clean off the old TIM from the mount of the H60. Earbuds and a TIM-remover are best for this.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Akasa-AK-TC-...3732497&sr=8-1
TIM removers are available very cheaply, but are mostly acetone i.e. nail polish remover.
Is that what you're after ?
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Thanks for that, sorry about my previous post, did it jsut before I started work lol.
The H60 did come with thermal paste, however has been used on a core i7 920. I have that thermal pasta at home already, any advice on applying the apste on this processor? On my 920 i just put a straight line.
When I purcahsed the thermal paste, I also got the cleaning bottles with it, think the are called Artic Cleaner, what I was asking is are they save to use to remove thermal paste from the H60.
Hope that makes sense now Sorry.
Ps waiting for today's only deals to update, looking for a 1TB Wester Digital, not a seagate fan.
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
A thin line, or a small pea blob in the centre. Either will work fine. (I use the thin line as well - but no great diff either way)
The principle is the same as all coolers, you want a thin even layer across the heat spreader.
"what I was asking is are they save to use to remove thermal paste from the H60."
Errr. What ?
Do you mean safe ? If so, yes. Go for it, it's all much the same stuff.
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
Thanks cool,
Thats great stuff, Yes I was not sure if I could use Artic Clean on the cooler to remove the original thermal paste that came with the H60.
and if it was better to apply on the cooler or the cpu. I have always applied it on the cpu as can be tricky putting the cooler down with thermal paste, and not good if it goes on the mobo.
my 650 should be engouh to pwer this up too I hope, :D
Re: Cpu and Mobo for £300
I do the same. Clean the heatsink, paste on the new CPU, then squash it with the heatsink.
If it powered the 920, it's more than enough to power the new setup. No worries.
