Sell a complete PC or split ?

I have an old Core 2 duo based system to sell. Do you think it would be better to sell as a complete system, or to split and sell the parts?

    Spec is:

Silverstone Sugo Evolution mATX case that I got from Hexus forums
    Intel Core 2 duo E6400
    2x 1Gb RAM
    ASUS mATX LGA 755 motherboard
    nVidia 7800 GTX
    200 Gb HDD

Based on similar for sale threads at work, I think I could probably get £50 for the system by selling it there.

The question is, am I likely to get more for the parts by selling them separately? I paid £40 for the case back in 2006, and unlike everything else it should not have aged much so should be worth something.

    split is... 100%

    A) you can post bits

    B) buyers are weird.... they want "stuff" in bits to make and break themselves

Aye - I recently turned down higher offers on my machine in order to have a single sale with lower postage. Which is more important to you ? making an extra £20, or spending an hour or two dismantling the machine and posting each component individually ?

I wanted a faster sale with less hassle, and lost £20. Money well spent to get a day back IMHO.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: Sell a complete PC or split ?

Sorry I meant the hard drive on the sata or ide

The motherboard being 4 ram slots gives it a bit more scope, 2gb ddr stick can be a bit pricey 2nd hand, but 1gb sticks are cheap, so you could get 4 in there for 4gb total
I'm still happily gaming on 4gb, granted the rest is better spec'd but it does show you don't generally need more than 4gb
The 965 it a bit long in the tooth now but it was intel's first good chipset for the c2d although the later G3x or G4x are better

The 7800 gtx was a good card for it's time (really nice stock coolers too) even when the 8000series came out it could beat anything below the 8800gts, but it's time was a while ago, I doubt you'll get much more than postage for it now.

What I'm getting at here is swap the card with a cheap low end new card (lower power demand) and you'd have a nice cheap basic internet/office pc.
But the cost is a really hard call on it.

Re: Sell a complete PC or split ?

hello sorry to push in your thread but im curious to see what people think about this. as i have just ugraded my system and i have sat in my room my old AMD 955BE, Arctic pro CPU cooler, Asus Mobo, 4GB RAM, 500W PSU, optical drive and in a xigmatek case. i have taken the HDD out as im using it in my new build. i had Windows 7 OEM software installed and i understand i should let the disc go with the motherboard as the OEM is tied to the mobo.

so if you guys think splitting it and selling it like that then its interesting. but i do not have the original boxes as i bought my sytem as a full system.
