    Phage if you could confirm

    CPU Speed
Vcore (and PLL VTT and IMC if you've adjusted those!)
Software for monitoring temp (I'm using Real Temp)
    Approx ambient temp

    Cheers

Got it to 71-72C under Prime95 blended stress test with 4.4Ghz on 1.24V

Sure. Can do double checks tonight. Happy to do screen shots etc.
Are you available on Skype perhaps ?

    4.4GHz (44 multiplier)
VCore = Auto on my new BIOS, but CPUz shows it around 1.2v
    Real Temp
Ambient....I have no idea. It's my study and the box is under my desk.

Incidentally this BIOS really doesn't like 45x. It will boot at 4.5Ghz but I get a BSOD as soon as I start Prime 95.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Thanks, noise levels are a bit of an obsession of mine, I'm always messing about with fan speeds to try and get things as quiet as possible so I'd have been gutted if I'd changed to the R4 on impulse. I do like the layout of it though, hopefully Antec redesigns the 18* series and makes it bit more fitting friendly.

Thanks for the suggestion, is it silent at stock?

I have the same mobo, processor, and R3 case. Its nice to see that I wasnt the only one worried about the pressure on the processor arm lock. I was stressing that I was about to break the chip

Lovely thread mate, your cabling is far tidier than mine (but my drive cage isnt removable). Hopefully at some point this year I will get my head round overclocking, concentrating on networking atm, trying to make sense of my own setup atm when things just stop responding, once I get time then a new cooler and OCing is on the cards (but on the old machine first)

Can I ask what CPU cooler you are using?

Re: How I built my new rig - mistakes and all (inc. pics!)

I've rethought my CPU fan needs silence is a greater priority but ideally i'd like it to be reasonably silent and cool when overclocking. I'm upping my budget for the CPU cooler.

cptwhite_uk is the first PCIe socket usable in your setup or is it blocked by the NH-D14?
(I'm not going to use the first one in mine anyway but just curious).

Based on this post i'm thinking of going for either the NH-D14, Be Quiet BK017, or Phanteks PH-TC14PE.

I'm slightly hesitant about the NH-D14 as my motherboard's (Asus P8Z77-V Pro) CPU fan pin is PWM only BUT the chassis ones can also control the voltage. For the chassis fans, I was going to use the case's (Fractal Design R4) controller anyway. Am I worrying over nothing about the PWM?

Which of them is the better and more silent?

atm stock, Hexus' current reviews are great though, lots of coolers just as im considering them, most appear to cover the 4th RAM slot tho, which im not overjoyed about, might need to invest in low profile RAM for the 2nd 2 slots if I up to 16GB at any time.

Yeah I went with the low profile ram with this in mind.
FYI an 8GB (2x4) Corsair Vengeance Low Profile kit is on sale for £29.99 this weekend at scan:

    Hi

Great help I am in the middle of building my first computer and you now have me worried

Basically the parts I bought were
    Fractal R4 computer case
    Intel I7-3770k
    Asus P8z77-v Pro motherboard
    Seasonic 620w modular powersupply
    Noctua NH-D14
    2*Corsaire Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600mhz 10-10-10-27

After reading your thread I am now concerned that the DDR3 will not fit under the Noctua cooler The model number is cmz8gx3m1a1600c10

    what do you say

Just a quick pointer for anyone else building in this case. The section holding the front fans detaches from the front (open door, remove front panel below 5.25" bays to get access), meaning that you can install fans without having to remove the lower HDD cage.

    Thanks for posting this.
I`m actually thinking of buying this motherboard to replace my old Asus P8P67 Pro and just wondered how you`re getting on with it since you posted this? Seems to be a very good board for the price.

    Thanks
