    Arrow Maxtor (Hot!) OneTouch 250GB

    Hi,

    I've got myself a Maxtor OneTouch 250GB external drive, and I've noticed that it gets *really* hot. Not too hot to touch - but you wouldn't want to hold onto it for more than 5 seconds. It's not really doing much most of the time - just sat there... 'chillin' lol...

    I'm slightly concerned as the LaCie 120GB d2 drive I have gets hot as well... but only as hot when it is being worked to death.

    Anyone got any ideas/suggestions/comments?

    Thanks,

    Rory

    All I can say is that I have a 200GB Maxtor in an Icy Box, and while it does get hot when being used, the aluminium side panels spread the heat.

    I presume the drive in that enclosure is just the bigger model of my hard drive, explaining why they both get "quite warm."
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    get a prog called ACTIVE Smart and run the 30 day trial, it will let you know how hot the drives are running.

    Both my Maxtors runs HOT compared to all my other drives.

    Strangely enough, the internal temp sensor says it's only a few degrees hotter, but my fingers tell me a completely different story!

    So yes - They do run hot. I wouldn't stress about it too much.
