Tricky one - USB header to sata adaptor?
To forestall some responces here's my current situation
Mini-ITX build, I only have 2 sata ports and no spare pci-e slots and no pci slots.
What I want is 2 hard drives and a dvdr/w
I do have a spare usb header, so what I'm thinking is to hook the dvd up via some form of adaptor to the usb and run two hard drives off the two sata ports.
The problem I'm having is in finding something
The cloest I've found so far is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-Int.../dp/B003GS8YVU which is for a slim dvd, the one I'm using is a 5.25"
Ideally I just need a data adaptor as power can come from the psu.
I've looked at a couple of the extrenal usb to sata adaptors, those generally include power via the usb so can be used for low power 2.5" drives/slim line optical and they are quite bulky (stick out too far)
Has anyone seen such a thing as an internal usb header to sata data adaptor?
Re: Tricky one - USB header to sata adaptor?
Have you considered something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-TO...item41688dc422
It's external, but has no power. You'd have to loop the cable back into the case, which should be easy. You could even open the plastic bit up and resolder an internal header cable if you needed too.
I have one, and they are also reasonably small :)

You get short header to USB socket adapters, I've got one that came with my Antec media case to run the VFD.
Re: Tricky one - USB header to sata adaptor?
sort of thing I was thinking of, that one is a bit big, I was looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-To...-/330757927536 and one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/StarTech-c...-/300746722656
However I've found a simplier solution, I realised I've got an eSATA port on the back, so it's just needs a cheap and simple eSATA to SATA cable ;)
