    Cheap Netbook plus SSD?

I have started my postgrad course and i find that during the lectures I need a computing device of some sort to type notes and look at pdf files.
I currently have an iPad 2 with a keyboard and that is doing me well, until i stated 3 modules all requiring me to use a good spreadsheet program, basically excel.

Would it be viable to buy an extreme cheap netbook, load it with an SSD and have office on that? I have read that even with an SSD upgrade the processors that come with them would be huge bottlenecks. I would need this netbook to be fairly fast. I wont be loading any other programs except for Office and maybe AVG, as i have my desktop at home for main use, this is just for in uni and on the go use.

Also does anyone have any other recommendations?

For Office use, an SSD would be fine. With SSD prices so low nowadays, it wouldn't be a huge investment. Yes you'll probably be bottlenecked if you buy any current gen SSDs but the performance boost would be significant over your standard 2.5 inch HDD.

I'm not in a position to recommend it having not tried it, but have you tried using Numbers on the iPad? Even if it presents a few usability issues for what you need, it's always going to be cheaper than a whole new device as long as they can be overcome.
I've been living without a computer for 6 months and have been surprised to find, with a bit of tinkering and a jailbreak, that I can do almost all of the things I want/need to on my iPad alone.

well, my budget was £200, however i bought a Hp Mini 210-4125sa for £170 (quite cheap for that model i think, was scratched on the lid, so didnt even get sold), and spend an extra £10 on upgrading to 2GB RAM. im not intending to get an SSD anymore, as i have installed ubuntu onto it and it boots up fairly fast. also this netbook will contain pretty much nothing except word and excel documents.

Would using Numbers and a wireless keyboard be an option?
