    CPU Faulty??

I have a mates Athlon XP 2400+ (so nice of him ) and its been overclocked for about 6 months prior to me having it to 400MHz (i think im talking about the right thing now) anyway when i got it i tried over clocking it and i could only get 333Mhz out of it other wise windows wouldn't load. so i put it down to ram, at the time i had Corsair 256 XMS3200. so i bought a set of Dual DDR corsair 512 LL XMS3200. and i tried overclocking it again to 400Mhz and it wouldn't do it. anyone know why? i tried other combinations and got 2.1 gig out of it but its pointless having an extra 100Mhz speed than it used to have.

Anyone have any ideas why this cpu wont go higher than 33Mhz on my board than my mates who used to have it (mates board : NF7-S my board: NF7-S V2.0)

    Thanks

1.85 is high, without very good air cooling or preferably watercooling.

also are the pci/agp busses locked. your hdd/gfx might be getting upset and not loading properly.

Your mate probably dropped the multi at the same time as raising fsb - otherwise he would have been running it at 3.0GHz.
Presumably you did the same though as default multi at 333fsb gives virtually 2.5GHz.

perhaps if you tell us what your BIOS settings are, voltages & BIOS version we can help further. Also what PSU.

I guess you've checked that your AGP bus is locked at 66?

The buses are locked as default on the NF7.
Most likely explanation is not lowering the multiplier. Set it to something like 9*200 as a check

its also possible that your mobo just cant take the heat so to speak. FSB overclocking puts strain on the northbridge - if there isnt adequet(that the right spelling??) for it then you will get plenty of problems when overclocking

I don't think that the northbridge will be crapping out(unless he's whipped the cooler off it)
Every NF7 I've owned has done 200FSB and beyond and I've owned about 5

I have a feeling sir you maybe trying to do 200fsb x the default multiplier which would be 12 IIRC for a XP2400 166x12 = 1992Mhz. I might be wrong though but if not system is trying as default to load 12 x 200 = 2400Mhz which your CPU may not be happy with.

Also it may seem in the bios to be 1.85v but the NF7S undervolts by 0.05v -0.075v

Try 15 for the default multi of an XP2400 & 133 for default bus speed

ok, right, im not at my mahcine but from memory its running 12 X 166, i tried 10 X 200 but it didn't like it windows did not load. i tried another ratio which gave me like 2100 Mhz but i cant remember that ratio also it got into windos but after a cuple mins it would throw up a blue death message
