[Upgrade Advice] Going SLI, increase RAM + SSD?
Hey,
Current specs are
- ASUS P8Z68-V
- OCZ 700w Mod Xstream
- Vengence 1600mhz 8GB
- Asus Nvidia 560 1GB
- I5 2500K (OC'd ~4Ghz)
- 2x 500GB Samsung spinpoint HDDs
Was thinking of adding
- Second Asus Nvidia 560 1GB
- Another Vengence 1600mhz 8GB set
- And a Crucial CT256M4SSD1 256GB SSD
Temps at the moment Idle is GPU 44C and CPU 39C in an Antec 900 case.
Would people think that's a good upgrade for the money spent, £300?
Will I get a good return on performance and eye candy??
Thanks for looking...
Re: [Upgrade Advice] Going SLI, increase RAM + SSD?
Unless your running lots of virtual machines, the extra RAM is going to be useless....extra FPS = 0
The SSD would significantly reduce bootup times and allow a few games to boot fast won't effect framerate....extra FPS = 0
Extra 560 card. Now we are talking performance......but very dependant of game played...extra FPS could be anywhere from -20% (really new game with no SLI profile and negative scaling) to almost +100% (something like BF3 where SLI works perfectly).
Re: [Upgrade Advice] Going SLI, increase RAM + SSD?
OTH,wouldn't VRAM be the issue with BF3??
Re: [Upgrade Advice] Going SLI, increase RAM + SSD?
Sell the 560 and get a 670 ?
Re: [Upgrade Advice] Going SLI, increase RAM + SSD?
The difference between high and ultra textures is almost imperceptible to me, even on a 30" screen at 2560x1600. The extra grunt for smooth framerate and other graphical features can be quite dramatic though.

If you play a lot of games then get a 670ti or 7950, otherwise get an SSD will net you the biggest desktop experience change you'll ever have. I have upgraded every single component but nothing has been as dramatic as putting in an SSD (excluding GPU for games). Go for it as the SSD prices have tumbled so much lately.

Wouldn't surprise me!

Get an OCZ Vertex4 128GB as OS boost disk. Then use the rest two Samsung HDDs into RAID0 as a storage drive, would be a significant improvement xD:rockon:
