Re: New Build List
For a graphics card go with the Radeon HD 7950, it's a newer card and has great OC ability.

Re: New Build List
cheers will check it out. Do you think my p/supply is over the top? Gonna add to my list;
Optical drive,
Swap box.
Did look at the Cosmos 2, but it's out of my price range. Also thought of Antec 1200, can't decide on which case to go for.

Re: New Build List
If it were me I would:
1) go for the Dell U2412 monitor - only slightly more but IPS (better colour + viewing angles), fully adjustable stands, and Dell's 3 year premium panel guarantee (well worth having)
2) check out the Plextor M3 Pro and/or M5 Pro SSDs - not sure on relative costings but they're every bit as good, if not better than the OCZ V4 (in the case of the M5 Pro)

3) Save money, go for a BitFenix case. I use the Survivor - it's ok for a budget case, but a bit fiddly to take the side off, but apart from that it is well stocked with quiet fans +dust filters etc inside. They have released a fair few cases since i got mine, and they consistently get good write ups. My next machine will almost certainly feature one of their cases.
4) Optical drive, I love my LG bluray. It doesn't miss a beat.
5) maybe get a 7200 rpm HDD why crawl at 5400rpm?
6) The PSU seems fairly standard for what most people take these days. You don't really need 850w if you're not doing SLI/Crossfire. I'd look at getting a high-efficiency gold or platinum rated 750w (tops, maybe just 650w) modular model for the build above.
7) RAM, you might be able to save some cash going for a lower speed - IVB and SB don't really benefit from superfast RAM since the way they overclock is different from the older architectures.
CPU - yup I'd go for that one. MOBO, it's a good board, well spec'd, could a cheaper ASUS model eg the z77-Pro mATX offer you a similar spec for less cost?

Re: New Build List
You'd be better off goin with an ATX sized motherboard as if you're getting a big case might as well :)

Re: New Build List
Thanks for your reply,
1, Yeah maybe I could save on the PSU and put it towards the Dell U2412
2, will have another look at the ssd drives
3, I really like CoolerMaster cases it's just deciding which one.
4, Will check out the LG Optical
5, Yeah your right don't know how I missed that. too excited maybe lol
6, Wll look at some 750w PSU's
7, Will rejig my ram
8, Will stay with the cpu i7 3770k

Re: New Build List
What is the primary use of the machine going to be, gaming , video editing ?
With some knowledge of what the build is for, we may be able to suggest some components that are suited to your build.

Re: New Build List
A little gaming quite bit of animation, might need a couple of hdd's for animation / drawing. It's a surprise joint wedding gift.

Re: New Build List
It looks like a pretty good build, I was just thinking that it could be a bit overkill depending on usage, as i7 cpu is not really needed for gaming. ik 9000 does give some good suggestions though if you want to tweak the build slightly either due to cost or for extra performance.
