Can anyone help with a major problem?

    Hey guys

Im having a few probs game wise and I really dont know what it is thats doing it. Basically im running my games for about ten to 15 mins and my pc just locks up, cant exit the games or do anything its a reboot... and its meaning I cant play any of my games! What happens is it freezes then sometimes the sound comes back, but my screen has gone all funny... white and black horizontal lines come across the screen, and sometimes it changes between that and a blurred messed up window of what I was originally playing.. The sound also loops aswell, as if its just stopped dead.. but after a while it comes back. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Could it be my graphics card overheating? It never does it any other time...

Could it be my Power Supply? Or my memory? I suppose it could be any number of things

My agp is running at 1.61V and 68Mhz

    Cheers

    Chris

Although I doubt it, you can use Memtest to test the memory, and Prime95 to test general stability (excluding the graphics card).

Have you tried different drivers? Is this a new computer, or has it suddenly developed when it used to work fine?

Hey mate cheers for the help

Basically I upgraded about 3 weeks ago from an AMD 2600 Barton to the spec u see in my sig and had no problems at all. Someone has mentioned that my agp frequency and voltage are too high, and thats probably the problem

My AGP is running at 68MHz and 1.61V (i think it shud be 66 and 1.50 respectively?)

Im off to get an arctic cooler now to see if this helps, but if this dont work then im really unsure what to do! The card is less than 3 months old!

you've prolly overclocked something too far, set all your bios options back to default (use load defaults) and see if it still happens. That agp/pci bus is very sensitive to changes - I would leave at the default spec personally.

Sounds like the card overheating to me or something being overclocked to much. Ati cards dont like having the agp being out of spec but I'd have thought that 68mhz would be ok as would those voltages.

This looks like the classic "I've overclocked my x/y/z and now my computer doesn't work" post.

    From your sig you're running gfx @ 378/675 at 1.61v 68agp and cpu o/c @ 1.95Ghz.

Sounds like youv'e pushed a wee bit too far. Back the gfx C/M down a bit with agp 66 at 1.6v. Back the cpu off a bit and run some programs to test stability. Play your games and see if the crashing reoccurs.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Sounds like a heat issue to me probably to do with your GPU. 15 mins would seem a reasonable time for things to get a bit hot.

Does your rig freeze or lock after the same amount of time if you are just on the net or using word/excel?

If not I would defo say your GPU is on it's way out. Try this and let us know at least it eliminates one thing

Are your locks working on the mobo? Shouldn't really run AGP out of kilter if you can help it.

Temps from your sig didn't suggest heat probs. Maybe your paste was getting old or HS wasn't on properly. Glad to here you got it sorted anyway.
