I've had a rethink of my budget and also taken into account I have a suitable HDD and Windows 7 already.
It's hard to say until the new motherboards arrive.

I'm currently running a ION Atom based system and quite frankly, it's fantastic. It plays back 1080p stuff without an issue thanks to the GPU offloading. There are just a few other things I'd like to do that require a bit more CPU power.

I'm still tempted to go with socket F1 due to the cost. That and I'm always a bit dubious of brand new tech - I like to wait till they've been in the hands of others for a bit and a few BIOS revisions have been pushed.

Re: New Build Media Centre / Mini ITX System for Living Room

I have the same thoughts about the new AMD range, would rather hang on to see how they perform.

I did start putting a list of components together myself and came up with the following so. Take a look and any advice or pointers would be great. As mentioned I've not built a system in a while let along a mini-itx setup.

    CASE
Silverstone SG05B USB 3.0 Sugo Black Mini ITX Case with 300W PSU
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silve...fx-psu-80-plus
    £77

    CPU
    Intel Core i3 2120 3.3GHz Socket 1155 3MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004FA8NX..._df_B004FA8NXM
    £90

    CPU COOLER
Akasa AK-CCE-7106HP Intel Aluminium/Copper CPU Cooler for S775/1155/1156 Low Profile
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/akasa...s775-1155-1156
    £10

    MOBO
Zotac H61-ITX WiFi Socket 1155 onboard graphics (CPU required) 8 Channel Audio mITX Motherboard
    http://www.ebuyer.com/341236-zotac-h...dio-h61itx-a-e
    £75

    CASE FAN
Enermax UCTB12 T.B.Silence Case Fan Twister Bearing Super Silent 11 dBA Batwing Blades
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm...batwing-blades
    £7

    RAM? - any suggestions

In total works out around £259 without RAM

Also I don't need an optical drive, planning on booting and installing windows off USB.

Would I be better off paying that little extra for the i3-3225 CPU?

The 3225 has HD4000 graphics, which is a significant upgrade from HD2000/HD2500 in the other i3s, although I don't know if the additional features are worth the extra money. The other option would be to go for a T processor, which is the low voltage version - the 3220T is in stock at Scan for £97 and has a 35W TDP as opposed to 55W for the ordinary 3220. That should mean both lower power draw, and a quieter PC (less heat so slower fan speeds).

Cheers scaryjim, will look into the 3220T route.

Cat I would love to pick up a Streacom case, they look awesome! minimalistic is very appealing. I don't think I can afford one just yet as I'd have to look into a decent PSU to go with it.

Are there any other mini-itx case options?

I dont know what it is but I'm not keen on this case. The price is perfect but seen as it has to sit in my living room below the tv its going to look shocking.

Does anyone know much about these E-Q6 cases?

That seller has some decent cases and they also have a physical retail presence:

    http://www.it-tech-uk.com/stores

They also import the Viako cases too.

Re: New Build Media Centre / Mini ITX System for Living Room

Ok, I now finally have enough money and having chopped and changed components over and over I need the final bit of advice before i order the following. Any alterations and suggestions are more than welcome as like I said previously I've not put a new build together in years, never mind a mini ITX system!

    CPU
Intel Core i3 2120 (already bought at a bargain price)

    MOBO
    Asrock H67M-ITX 1155 mini-Itx Motherboard

    CPU FAN
Need some advice on this... has to be low profile and pretty silent. I cant see the stock fan being any good.

    SSD
Probably going to pick up a 128gb Sandisk Extreme or something

    RAM
Corsair Memory Vengeance Low Profi Jet Black 4GB DDR3

    CASE
Lian Li PC-Q09FW HTPC Chassis 150W PSU

    CASE FAN
    Sharkoon 1000 Golf Ball 80MM

Re: New Build Media Centre / Mini ITX System for Living Room

Will you be using a NAS or something as that case can't seem to house more than one 2.5" drive, that is if I've seen the specs right.

Say as you've said you were looking to house all your music, video etc in your OP.

Re: New Build Media Centre / Mini ITX System for Living Room

If you plan to go long term and want to make sure you are fully happy with your case AND you don't have budget issues I recommend:

    FC8 Evo Fanless Chassis
    http://www.streacom.com/products/fc8...nless-chassis/

As of now, Scan is selling this for £129.36 Inc VAT.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/strea...mini-itx-black

If you're looking for something slightly larger, like Micro-ATX, instead of Mini-ITX, then my next recommendation is:

    FC5 OD Fanless Chassis
    http://www.streacom.com/products/fc5...nless-chassis/

As of now, Scan is selling this for £169.87 Inc VAT.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/strea...icro-atx-black

There is also the alternative one for £199 without the disk slot and both these cases come in Silver colour which I think looks nice, depending on your setup.
