    Abit AW9D-Max & GTX560Ti - Will it work?

    Hey guys,

Its been a loooooong time since Ive been on here, but I now have a need for your expertise.

Im currently a little behind the times with PC's, and as such Im running an Abit AW9D-Max (Intel I975). Ive currently got a GeCube 4850 running on the board and 4gb of 6400 ddr2. PSU is a 600watt Enermax job. MB's BIOS is updated to the latest version (v17, from 03.03.08)

Ive been given an MSI GTX560Ti twin frozr to run. Sadly, when I install it on the board, the machine will not post, it gets to where its showing what drives are installed and then freezes. Im assured by the card donor that it was 100% functioning when he sent it. Ive checked it is seated properly and Ive even tried using a different PSU, but no good. Stick my old card back in and it fires up again, no problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem? Im wondering if the card, which says its PCIe 2, wont be compatible with the board (PCIe 1 I presume), and if thats the case, does anyone know whats the best card I could get that will run in the system? Im not really in a place where I can afford to upgrade the board/CPU/memory at the moment, so the quickest card I can get would be the best option.

Any help would be much appreciated.

try it in the other Pci-e slot (SLAVE) see if it runs in that slot

Does your PSU have the 2x pci-e 6 pin power plugs needed to power the gfx card

    Thanks for that,

I'll give it a whirl and yes, the PSU does have a pair of 6pin connectors.
