Selling Items
Hi guys,
I'm looking to strip down an old dual socket computer of mine to sell off all the individual components but i've never done it before.
Would i need to try and get hold of plastic containers for the likes of the cpu and the ram sticks? and i take it each would have to be wrapped in ant-static bags?
Lastly do the likes of the cpu and heatsink need cleaning i take it before you could sell them?

Re: Selling Items
depends on who you sell it to and how fussy they are :)
personally when i sell: wipe off all the thermal compound and remove dust, sending a cpu id say a case is a must... it will highly likely be damaged in transit otherwise. ram should be in antistatic bags but for me it wouldnt be a HUGE deal if i was sent RAM like that but to someone else the total opposite.
hope that helps

Re: Selling Items
I'd give stuff a clean before you sell certainly.
Then if possible antistatic bags are good, then, depending on the weight and size of the item, either a hard case (plastic one they came in, or just a solid cardboard box) or just wrap it in bubblewrap then put in a padded envelope etc.

Re: Selling Items
Put it this way - if you sell someone a working CPU or whatever, then it has to arrive at them in working condition, because that's what you sold. Different components have different fragilities/sensitivities to static, so you just need to be sensible and match the packaging to the robustness of the component.

Re: Selling Items
Yeah be careful packing stuff
use something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/381511-smartbo...edium=products
with cardboard boxes to suit the size of component your posting out also insure each item above it sale price.
Always make sure you handle PC parts carefully and take anti-static measures when packing sensative parts like RAM and CPU
for the CPU you need 1 of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-CPU-Pa...-/160646188717
hope this info helps you decide which is the best course of action

Re: Selling Items
Excellent guys, thanks very much for the help.
Now just need to start ripping the old computer to bits.

Re: Selling Items
Ideally sell as a combo and keep the cpu and ram in place on the mobo.
